I was just wondering how you pronounce the word Basque?
Is it pronounced exactly like the word "bask"? Or does it rhyme with the word "mosque"? Something else?

Just curious.

The American pronunciation rhymes with "bask" as in "basking in the sun." I'm not sure about the British but I think even some of them would pronounce it like bask (bæsk) too.

The Basques call themselves "Euskara." and their language "Euskaldunak." However, the ancient Celts and the Romans called them Vascones and that is where the English name comes from.

According to Wikipedia, Vascones is a "variation of Barscunes (apparently from Celtic bhar-: marche or mountain land)."
