I've had large amounts of blood follow my stool each time I use the restroom. I'm not sure exactly how much blood there really is but the toilet bowl water is pretty much red. It's been happening for about a week now and I'm getting worried. Yesterday was the only exception as I saw no blood int he stool, however it has reoccurred again today. I saw a physician and he was unable to find any trace of blood with the equipment he had. He suggested I go see a gastroenterologist but the earliest available appointment is next Tuesday. I'm pretty anxious and scared and was wondering if this is a serious issue that should be taken care of sooner. Please let me know if you have any knowledge of this issue.

it could be diveriticulitis, or some other large bowel problem. Do u usually have hard stools or consitpation? It could be a tear in the rectum or large bowel. Until u go to the specialist maybe try to up ur water intake and fibre, just to make the stools a little softer as to not irritate the bowel any further.
Ur lucky u got a appointment that quick! I needed a appointment for my belly button (long story) but it was 7 weeks before i got one!

Ok blood wowzers...Anyways please visit a Gastroentologist. What he or she will do is do a colonscopy procedure to check inside of your intestines to see the cause of the blood. I think you may be constipated, because if you are you will develop hemmehoids and that can cause blood in the stool. That also tells you that you should be eating more vegies than meat. I hope that helps out. Also the Gastroentologist will do something that will stop that bleeding. Another thing is you could be drinking a lot of soda and the acid could be the cause too the doctor will prescribe medication for management of acid.

Without knowing what examinations you already had, but with that much bleeding you need a full evaluation. I'm assuming that the blood is bright red or maroon colored which indicates a bleed from the lower part of the GI tract. You need a full evaluation with a colonoscopy. If the blood is dark black and tarry, it indicates a bleed from higher up in the GI tract (the stomach, esophagus, or the first part of the small intestine), so you'd need an upper GI series.

first advice dont ignore it as my ex partner did he ended up collapsing thru blood loss and had emergency op he had something rare, diverticulitis for which he had no symptoms but the affected area was located on 2 arteries that caused the bleeding as it was an emergency he had to have whole of large intestine removed. it could be something more simple such as piles. try not to worry too much, if yr blood loss increases or u start feeling faint or dizzy then u should be seen urgently otherwise just make sure u go for your appt on tuesday. good luck hope u will be ok soon.

You are either eating foods you are seriously allergic too which is leading to the excretion of the lining of your GI tract, something is lodged within the walls of your colon, or possibly colitis. Do not listen to one doctor. See as many possible until you get a definite answer, and stay away from drugs.

My aunt was diagnosed with colitis too far along because doctors "found nothing" and now she defecates into a bag that sits on her side. She's only in her 40's.

Also, colon cancer is on the rise. I would suggest cleansing your body for at least 2 weeks and eating a strict diet of cleansing foods only, and then following up with a series of colonics by a LIBBE practicioner. Yes, I have done it and I continue to do it and it is one of the greatest ways to acheive optimal health and body awareness.

You can do your own research at www.colonic.net and find a practicioner, as well as cleansing tips and how to do a cleanse.

Good luck!

It may be hemorrhoids - little fissures that are around the anus. What won't hurt you at all is to go to a drugstore and get some Preparation H and use it til you see the doctor. If you have them, it will help. If it's something else, you wouldn't have done any harm.
Otherwise, just eat fruits and veggies so your bowel movements stay regular, whole grains, etc. Not much dairy. Don't strain when you go.
Good luck. Hope it's just the hem. and not something more serious.

I would visit the Emergency Room, instead of waiting until next Tuesday. I doubt the staff there would make you wait.....large amounts of blood loss is dangerous.

Best of luck to you.

Lower GI - Blood will be reddish
Upper GI - Blood will be tarry

Upper could be diverticulitis or ulcer
