I read this article yesterday. What are your thoughts?
NEW YORK, Nov. 20 (UPI) -- Volumes 1 and 2 of "Sesame Street: Old School" come with a warning stating the first episodes of the beloved U.S. series may not be appropriate for children.
"These early 'Sesame Street' episodes are intended for grown-ups and may not suit the needs of today's preschool child," the statement said.
The long-running series began in 1969.
Asked by The New York Times why the warning was necessary, Carol-Lynn Parente, the show's executive producer, mentioned one installment that depicted Cookie Monster chewing on, then eating a pipe during the parody "Monsterpiece Theater."
"That modeled the wrong behavior, so we reshot those scenes without the pipe and then we dropped the parody altogether," Parente told the Times.
She noted that Oscar the Grouch's extreme grouchiness in early episodes doesn't set a great example, either.
"We might not be able to create a character like Oscar now,"

I grew up with it and...well, I'm sorry, but I never wanted to smoke a pipe because Cookie Monster had one. My parents raised me right...it had nothing to do with sesame street (besides helping learning letters and numbers)

I also read this yesterday, and I must say, I was surprised!
I grew up with Sesame Street, and personally, I turned out fine! I've never felt influenced to smoke a pipe (or eat one, for that matter) or be rude just because Cookie Monster or Oscar did. The show helped me learn basic preschool skills, I don't think that preschoolers take much notice to a puppet's pipe anyway.
The only thing that made sense NOT to be appropriate to kids was the little girl walking off with a stranger; if my child watched that particular episode, I'd have a little chat with him about stranger danger and move on with my life.
Regarding Big Bird's imaginary friend, I encourage my children to use their imaginations! What is wrong with an imaginary friend?!
I still love Sesame Street

As I stated previously to a question just like this one, this show has always been for kids. Some people are way too sensitive about exposing their kids to stuff they feel is inappropriate. A character smoking a pipe and Oscar being too grouchy??? Oh Please! That's what parents are for, to explain what is appropriate and what isn't. Don't preach and force your morals or likes and dislikes on me and my child. I will teach her what is right and what is wrong. Sesame Street has been a wonderful teacher over the years and my daughter and I loved to watch it.

I watched Seasame Street when I was a child and I turned to be a well balanced individual. What pretentious crap. Its not good for kids to have crackhead parents or to have parents who are uber wierd and protective about every expect of their lives... "One, two, three... Three vampire bats ha ha ha ha ha".
Edit: I think it was a couple of years back that cookie monster had to stop eating cookies all the time because it was bad for his health and cookies are "a sometimes food". He's effin cookie monster! Perish the thought a parent actually teach their kids good eating habits, just take away poor cookie monster's cookies and make him do it!

I was shocked when I read this earlier this week, thought it was a joke at first. I still think it IS a joke, LOL. What is this world coming to?
An 8th grader gets suspended from school for hugging a friend... yet some schools are saying "Here's a condom, here's the pill..."
Santa cannot say HO HO HO...
Now Sesame Street is off limits to our children.
??? It's really pathetic!

I read that too. Hey, I grew up on Sesame Street. Started watching it in the mid 70's. I turned out normal and was never scared or frightened of anything on that show.
It was annoying no one could see Snuffalupagus, that's about my only complaint.
Yes, people are too sensitive these days.

Well, children eating pipes is one of the biggest issues facing our society today. Pipe eating has to stop and we can't have popular role models like Cookie Monster setting such a bad example.

Oh please!! People are so touchy these days! I'm sure a lot of children will see far worse things by just walking to school than by watching Sesame Street. Political Correctness gone mad!

I read the full article yesterday too. It's so silly. Kids don't analyze every detail. They just want to learn their numbers and letters and see funny puppets.
