I have a cousin who doesn't believe in God, but believes in ghosts. It makes no sense to me, but that's just the way she is. I, on the other hand, believe in God, but not in ghosts. Interesting that you connect ghosts with religion.

Most of the atheists that I know don't believe in ghosts. There may be some that do, however.

It depends what ghosts are...
I know that some people have experiences which they interpret as disembodied spirits, or persistent fragments of humans.
The phenomena could exist while the interpretation of it be mistaken. (much like UFO's for similar reasons)
Subsonics and the effect of electromagntic fields on the brain are up for consideration: see for example the work of Dr Michael Persinger.
So this atheist puts the doubt not on the existence of "ghosts" but on what they signify.
Once you've talked with, and reassured, a few people with Charles Bonnet syndrome, it broadens your mind on what the human brain can get up to, and it's easier to take on board a wider range of possible origins for "ghosts"
