Even the greatest truths can be made to serve pride and power. Scriptures were used for centuries to justify slavery. They're still used to oppress women and minorities, though not perhaps as blatantly as they used to be. It just goes to show the need for wisdom and scepticism anytime someone claims to have the whole truth.
Peace to you.

The reason people were put out over her prayers wasn't because she prayed for him because her prayer had good intentions.
The problem with her was that she was so ill informed about the reasons of homosexuality and the likelyhood of prayer doing anything good except to make her feel better.

This know that in the last days perilous times shall come , for men shall be lovers of themselves , covetous ,
boasters , proud , blasphemers , disobedient to parents , unthankful , unholy , without natural affection ,
trucebreakers , false accusers , incontinent , fierce , despisers of those that are good , traitors , heady ,
high-minded , lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God , having a form of godliness but denying the power
of it ; from such turn away . For this of this sort are they who creep into houses and lead captive silly women
laden with sins , led away with various lusts , ever learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth
