Okay, so I have a black Lab, he weighs 100+ pounds. Anyways, he just ate like 2 1/2 rib bones from TGI Fridays...this was my fault for leaving it on the counter when I know he is notorious for stealing stuff. Anyways, do you think he will be alright? I've only heard that Chicken bones are really bad, and he got into several of those months ago but was fine. So do you think he will be fine after hearing that?

Clever dog! He knows when he on to a good thing. RAW bones are fine - that is what a dog is designed to eat. The teeth and jaws are designed to crush through and strip meat off the bone. My dog and cats thrive on a diet of raw meat, edible bones and offal and so so millions of others.

Chicken, turkey, pork and rib bones are all fine when eaten raw. The only bones an experienced raw feeder will not feed or leave with the dog are those big weight baring marrow or shin bones. You know the ones, they get sold as dog bones but may actually crack the dog's teeth.

Do your research and don't be put off by alarmist talk of 'dangerous bones', 'blood thirsty dogs' and 'bacteria in raw meat'. These myths and fallacies get repeated time and time again but are based on untruths or faulty scientific theory.

EDIT - being Australian and never having heard of where you bought them, I didn't click that the ribs were cooked! As the other posters have stated he should be fine but keep an eye on him. Ribs are very bony so feed him just meat today to help keep his faeces softer. That much bone when he is not used to it, especially cooked, may cause firm waste or constipation.

Any bone can be bad, if it has been cooked. Heat turns bones brittle, and brittle bones can splinter, causing internal damage. The only bones a dog should get are raw ones. More than likely he will be fine, but watch him for a week or so, checking for blood in his stool, dry heaving, or anything else that could indicate a stuck bone fragment, or a fragment that has punctured some internal thing.

Well, hard to say, but probably.

Watch his stool carefully and look for a couple of things: throwing up food (means he may have a blockage if he cannot keep food down), blood in stool (which can be as simple as an irritation or can indicate that a bone has pierced the tummy, colon or intestines).

I would suggest a call to the vet to see what the vet recommends.

Your dog should be fine. By now if your dog was in distress they would have been vomitting or have trouble breathing. Watch for these signs or diarrea.

My lab has eaten whole popsocles sticks and a cloth once. The stomach acids will break the matter down!

Try not to worry.

If there were any problems you'd know by now!
Labradors have very large powerful jaws and extremely good teeth, perfect for cutting, chewing and grinding!
I once was out with my dogs and my friend's labrador. He was the gentlest dog and could carry a raw egg in his mouth without breaking it!
We were walking in the countryside and there was a dead rabbit in the road.
I watched in disbelief as this gentle giant crunched his way through the entire rabbit, chewing through the intact scull as if it was a de-boned lamb chop!
The only real danger is if a piece of bone gets caught in the gum, or especialy the throat, but as I said, you would already know if it had!
Keep an eye on his bowel motions over the next couple of days in case he has any trouble passing a bit, but this is very unlikely!
I hope this helps!

I would keep a close eye on him, any bone if cooked can be dangerous for dogs to eat as they can splinter in the stomach and bowel and cause devastating problems for the animal.

All raw bones are good for dogs to chew on.

If he passes the bones ok, you should be out of the danger zone, if he doesn't go to the toilet as normal, go to your vet, they may have to operate or do an ultrasound to find out if there are any bowel obstructions etc.

Keep a close eye on him. One of the problems with bones is choking but since he already ate them he should be safe with that. You need to watch for signs of perforation.

He will be fine. He might have diarrhea from the ingredients that were in the sauce on the ribs but I wouldn't be worried about it. A good thing to help his stomach if he does have diarrhea is rice or pumpkin, that always settles my dogs stomach. Good luck.
