PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― The U.S. Military is demanding that thousands of wounded service personnel give back signing bonuses because they are unable to serve out their commitments.

To get people to sign up, the military gives enlistment bonuses up to $30,000 in some cases.

Now men and women who have lost arms, legs, eyesight, hearing and can no longer serve are being ordered to pay some of that money back.

One of them is Jordan Fox, a young soldier from the South Hills.

I do not know if this is totally true or not, I have heard that congress has already started a bill to prevent this from happening. That I don't believe.

I do believe that these troops deserve every dime of that bonus if they have to leave the military because of an injury on the job.

And I don't care if that's in Afghanistan Iraq or Ft Gordon with a truck rolling over their foot.

They have the guts to stand up and serve then they deserve every dime they get.

Continue to march!!!!!!!

The kids mother was just on the radio around 3PM PST and he has yet to get official notification the debt is canceled. Further Jordan Foxes are cropping up all over. Hopefully our fearless leaders understand we are watching their moves. These young people should be treated with the honor they have earned.

Reminds me of the debacle at Walter Reed. They fire the guy that was trying to fix things then put the guy who caused the problem back in charge. As far as our leadership is concerned the failure is letting the press know the truth about about how they treat our soldiers. Notice the offical change of Policy in the latest press statement...they will now 'consider' refunding the $ they have ALREADY collected from other wounded soldiers.
Edit
Here is a quote from Gen Tucker "We're not sure what happened but we're gonna fix it." note he does not say these kids will get their bonus money. Sounds like they intend to fix the press leak!!

Sadly it probably an clerical error. Soldiers invalided out of the military due to wounds can not fulfill the contracts. Instead of checking on why they are leaving the service early, pen-pushers are only seeing that the contract was not fulfilled.

I believe that anyone medically discharged due to wounds is granted retired status, therefore they have fulfilled their contracts.

It's a shame that an office error can cause so much trouble. These veterans deserve better.

M1A1 is correct. BG Tucker from the Pentagon was on Fox News this morning putting to bed the rumors that wounded soldiers are having to pay back their bonuses. The Pentagon is also going back and returning money already recouped from wounded soldiers.

Although the facts of the story are true, the military has gone on record as saying this is all a BIG mistake and they are working to correct it.

I think a little bit of WATERBOARDING is in order, here, so we can find the morons responsible. Then, a few heads mounted on pikes in front of the Pentagon will remind people that we need to take care of our veterans, not SCREW THEM OVER. I'm so mad I could bite a hole in a concrete floor.

Senator Elizabeth Dole, this is happening on your watch. What are you doing about it?

No - this was an accounting error in the Pentagon.

This has been covered in questions for the past several days.

That stinks! But I believe it because I've gotten a bad attitude about the military and their greed and recruiter lies.
