In Ambulatory?
Seldom general.
Until they arrive at a hospital they don't know fully your condition.
They need you to be awake when you arrive so that you can talk to doctors.
A mild or local may be the rule.
It's all I ever received in an ambulance or even while waiting for diagnosis in ER.

There may be extreme circumstances that change the rule. Like severe burns. The diagnosis is obvious.
Internal injuries cannot be diagnosed in an ambulance.
We often have to endure some pain.

Dentists are trained for four years and have experience in extraction of teeth. Simple extractions are those that do not require surgical intervention by means of tissue or bone removal to extract a tooth. Surgical extractions require more time and soft and hard tissue to be removed. Oral surgeons are best equipped to handle medical emergencies during tooth extractions. Oral surgeons complete four years for dental school and then another 4-6 years of training. So with experience comes price and now it is up to you to make the decision. Based on your explanation and level of dental anxiety, it may be in your best interest to see an Oral Surgeon. Also, there is medical risk with every dental procedure and you will have to sign a consent form for surgery before you have your teeth extracted by a general dentist or oral surgeon.

It depends on the procedure and even the doctor. For instance I had my wisdom teeth out. My oral surgeon used general but I know other people that only had local for the same thing

General is better...you don't feel anything!! But more dangerous.....Just depends on the injury.
