This year the holidays will be harder for me than usual because I am away from someone I love very much, and will be away from him for quite awhile. He is alone too. Only I know that I am not really alone, for God is with me. You can't reach out to someone, blood or not blood, who will suck you down into whatever hole they may be in.
I take comfort knowing that many, many people feel the same way this year so I am not *really* alone. And send out a light that we all heal and have a better Thanksgiving next year.
PS: Alone just means "All One." Think about it.

Actually I am never alone. My friends are constantly by my house. I think they see it as a place to get away from the stresses of life at times. I love them very much and chose to make it my duty to see that they are OK in every possible way i can. I look out for others that i am not so close to as well. I don't find the area of help hard. I love to do it.

You changed your avatar. That's cool. Yes, I wasn't always so accepting of them. As in all families, many family members were hurtful or just plain people I couldn't stand. But the Lord Jesus has changed me over the years. He's softened me with compassion and filled my heart with love and forgiveness. Now there is not a family member I don't feel close to and wouldn't go see if they were alone. I don't mean to sound boastful. I give the Lord all the credit.

Co-workers who have no family? I've been cooking all week to schlep in some food for them tomorrow at work. Yes, I'm working. I, too, have no local family.
