There is obviously a lot of information you didn't give us. FYI a wagging tail can denote friendliness, but can also indicate intense aggression. Anyone who has ever faced an angry aggressive dog will tell you that there is a look in their eyes and a certain 'set' to their body language that indicates it is ready to attack. That's no B.S. Hopefully there is time to tell the dog's owners to call him off. If they don't it isn't reasonable to wait until the dog has your **** clamped in his teeth for you to eliminate the danger. Be reasonable and put yourself in the officers' place. Also, think about what you did say ... the family was handcuffed and kneeling as is done in a felony danger stop and the officer(s) were carrying shotguns. Doesn't sound like a routine traffic stop to me.

Wagging it's tail with a shotgun?. Sounds to me like self-defense. Dogs should not be allowed to wave shotguns with their tails.

( Or, maybe there is a lot of the story missing here or possibly a lot of video tape not shown and only taken out of context.)

Police officers don't shoot dogs who are wagging their tails.

I haven't seen the video but there may have been a good reason for it. The dog could have been growling or making some threatening motion. So without both sides of the story all I can say is I don't know.

Must have had a reason. They don't usually shoot friendly dogs.

We don't shoot dogs that are friendly, there must be more to this.
