customizing XMB for ps3?

do you know a website that explains how to customize your own XMB? i tried to read sony's but i still have no idea how to do it. if you know how to do it then heres a question- how do you lay out the icons so it can be moved left to right and up and down. and what program do i use? i have adobe illustrator and imageready if that matters...
