Yes, I've seen that verse before (1 Timothy 2:9). It doesn't say that it's a sin to braid your hair, though. That verse means that you shouldn't make SUCH a big deal about what you wear or how good your hair looks.
Nothing wrong with looking good, just don't make your physical appearance your God.

You're speaking of 1 Pet. 3 and 1 Tim. 2.
If you read the context of the verses, it's not the hair-braiding itself that is sinful. The sin is in the attitude of the heart of those women who are more focused on braiding hair, wearing jewelry, fine clothing, etc.
1 Pet. 3:4 explains it - when it says the focus of Godly women is to be the "hidden man of the heart ... the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price."
There is nothing in these verses which suggest that braiding hair is a sin. Read them again.

Actually those verses are not saying that braided hair is sinful. Be careful of reading verses out of context, taking them out of context, or jumping to conclusions before you've studied all that the Scriptures have to say about an issue. You will do well to avoid extremes. God bless!

Yes, but then God sent Jesus (God in the flesh) to die for our sins and to do away with the old covenant. After Jesus came, there was no need to practice the law that was in place before he came. The bible says that no one comes to the father except through me (John 14:6). This verse indicates that we need not practice our faith in God in the way that we did before Jesus. For example, we not longer need to sacrifice our livestock in order to receive God's mercy, or make sure our hair is not braided, etc. This was God's plan in sending Jesus to Earth. To give us clarity in who he really is. It's not if you have braided hair, or tattoos (the bible also speaks against that), or any of the other laws anymore. It is simply about having a relationship with Jesus Christ, who is the way, the truth and the life (John 14). Jesus says "My father's home has many rooms." (John 14). This means that there is enough room for everyone in heaven. Even those who braid their hair, but you must go through Jesus to get a room.
God Bless

It is not saying it is sinful, it is saying that women (and men) she be more concerned with the heart than appearance
***
1 Timothy 2:9 in like manner also, that the women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with propriety and moderation, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or costly clothing, 10 but, which is proper for women professing godliness, with good works.
The literarty tool Paul uses often is "not...but..." a comparison of a superior virtue. He uses this often
Peter does not use this type of description, perhaps making it clearer
1 Peter 3:3 Do not let your adornment be merely outward--arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel-- 4 rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God.

We have to understand that the gospel is couched in cultural expressions. We have to distinguish the kernel of the gospel from the husk of culture. We have to retain the gospel and throw away the husks.
Definitely the issue of braided hair is husk that can be thrown away. Hair styles are cultural stuff. Hair styles do not affect your salvation.

yes, I know this. In my opinion this verse is implies that a woman shouldn't flaunt her beauty but have self-control and modesty. This could be taken to a whole other level if you look at the way some "christians" dress these days. modesty.

its not a sin for women to braid their hair, you need to read the whole verse
1Ti 2:9 In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with braided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array.
paul was telling timothy that women shouldn't impress people with what they are wearing, or how they are wearing it, but they should impress people with modesty, and respect, and modest apparel, Christ in those women should draw attention to them, not what they are wearing..

Where did you see that? I'd like to read it in context.
There are a lot of things that don't make sense out of context everywhere you look.

Yep, it also says women can't pray with out something on their hair. Its becoming a problem, the Muslims are running into those problems right now to with the Qu'an. Its becoming irrelevant in the modern age, it just doesn't click anymore.
