I'm glad you said that it is your opinion that music is haram, and it is your interpretation :) Because, honestly, you cant go around saying music is haraam, since it is not a fact, just your opinion. You wont get anything out of debating with other Muslims. A better thing to do would be to establish a better understanding/clearing any misconceptions with non-believers about Islam. You will get even more reward for doing that than argueing pointlessly with other Muslims on determining whether music is halal or haram. Be a true Muslim. Oh and you were probably recieving rude responses because you were enforcing your opinion upon them. . Hey, if your a very conservative wahabi, i really cant say anything to you. You see, you cannot innovate Islam, saying music is haram is clearly innovating Islam. Islamic Music, Arts, and Architecture is alive & well, and has always been. The way i see it, if your saying music is haram, go ahead and say taking pictures is haram too, while at it, say art is also haram. Perhaps you should wear a Burqah just to be on the safe side. And you can go on and on and on, but ofcourse, you would at some point go astray of Islam, creating your own ideologies and cant even be called a Muslim. The human mind can very easily be manipulated. Oh, btw a Burqah is an innovation by wahabi'ism. Peace be with you

Oh and a couple of answers from Muslims do not represent the view of the entire Muslim World.

It's more natural than supernatural. Westernized music is based on the 8 note scale. We standardized te note of "A" to be 440 hz and all of the other notes within the scale of A is related to these hertz. Listen the Stravinsky and you may get some of the same feelings because much of his later work uses a 12 note scale called chromatic. People like Debussy used a whole tone scale at times Listen to "nuages" Now, middle eastern music predates the westernized form. Much of their music uses micro tones. For example if A is 440 and A# is 475 (roughly) middle eastern may have a tone that rests at 455 or even tones at 450 and 460hz. To the western person that is used to diatonic music this can be a little disturbing to listen to because to our ears the notes sound flat or sharp.

I can't ever count those as haram, no matter what anyone says...yesterday i was having doubts and it created this horrible feeling of suffocation in my chest...and i started to listen to some beautiful nasheeds, and the feeling melted away and was replaced with love for Allah SWT. Without those nasheeds i think i might have become extremely depressed, but they really helped. I doubt shaytan would help erase my dubious thoughts and feelings... do u?

ur right that Allah SWT knows best, there is no such thing as Islamic music, but there are Islamic anasheed...the songs that dont have musical instruments. if the nasheed has music its no longer called a nasheed, its now called music, even if its talking about Allah or the Prophet, because i've heard many raps and other things thats sound like 50 cent and snoop dog, and this is tashabbuh, trying to copy the kuffar.
i think that many muslims just want to be excepted by the kaafir society, which is wrong, because no matter how mucg they hate, how many curses i get, or even thumbs down, i will still stand up for the Qur'an and the AUTHENTIC sunnah of the Prophet SAW, so that he may intercede on my behalf on the Day of Judegement.

the messenger of Allah SAW once said to his companions may Allah be pleased with them: "All of my Ummah will enter Jannah except for those who decline it." His companions asked: "Oh Messenger of Allah! Who would ever decline Jannah?!" He said: "Whoever obeys me will enter Jannah, and whoever disobeys me, for surely he has declined (Jannah)"

this hadith truly scares me, and not one of us can say that they wont need the Shafaa'ah (interceding) of the Messenger os Allah.

Insha-Allah this will enlargen you persective that music is haraam, dont worry, there are PLENTY of anasheed out there that dont have music.

ur sis in Islam

theyre not haram if they remind you of Allah. The reason music is haram is because its like a siren that will distract you from religion. Music adds beauty to the islamic song.
Yes, some people interpret it differently. I know people who think everything with a musical beat is a sin that will land you in hell.

nasheed are OK, nasheed that remind of Allah WITHOUT any musical instruments, like zain bahikah, or ahamed bukahtir, but personally, i dont know of any songs that make u pray more, and a song that makes you pay ur zakah, or a song that makes u go to hajj

Nasheed is Islamic lyrics without music. Songs, is lyrics (even if Islamic) WITH music.
So, sister, songs are Haram and nasheed is Mubaah (Mubaah means allowed).

Question: Just as many questions are asked about halãl and harãm music, many questions are asked about halãl and harãm songs. Is it correct to say that harãm songs are those that arouse sexual, lustful urges and promote unstable and degrading behaviour? Is it correct to say that songs that do not arouse lustful desires, but elevate the souls and thoughts to lofty levels like religious songs of praise dedicated to the Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.) and the Imams (a.s.), or the songs that lift the spirits and morale [of the fighters] and the like are halãl songs?

Answer: All songs (al-ghinã’) are harãm. Based on the definition that we accept, al-ghinã’ is the entertaining expression by way of tunes that are common to those who provide entertainment and amusement. In this prohibition, we should include the recitation of the Holy Qur’ãn, supplications (du‘ãs), and songs of praise of Ahlul Bayt (a.s.) uttered to the accompaniment of those tunes [that are used by the entertainers]. The prohibition of reciting other non-entertaining expressions —like songs intended to lift the morale [of fighters]— is based on compulsory precaution. However, the tune that cannot be described as such is not harãm by itself.
