If "spirit" is just a euphemism for the quality that distinguishes living things from dead, then no!

A body cannot live without the spirit.Suppose there are two human bodies are lying side by side. One is alive and the other has been declared dead.Now tell me what is/are differences between the two? Both of them possess all parts of the body viz.head,torso,arms,legs etc.Despite this equality one is known as dead. The reason is that spirit has departed from that body.His body cannot live without the spirit.

It must be a miserable body that lives without a little bit of spirit every evening. On the contrary excess spirit can damage the body.

No cos you are not your body. Without "you" or your spirit" it is just a dead thing. You need a body to get around in life but that's all.

We do live with out one, scientifically, but in a way, we do have it. I think its personality.
EDIT: Now I think I'm starting to form a better idea of where a lot of ideas of the soul come from, the Egyptians. CHRISTIANS STEAL EVERYTHING FROM PAGANS! They owe the Pagans big time!
