I want to buy a PS3 in January or February 2008, but I want the PS3 I buy to have perfect backwards compatibility. Is Sony going to start making the 60GB again?

No, they aren't. It's only 80GB and 40GB. The 80GB relies on software emulation for backwards compatibility. Currently, about 80% of PS1/2 games work. This number is supposed to improve with firmware updates.

Most likey never. They replaced it with sofware so it can reduce the cost. dont worry though its getting better with each firmware update and still can play most PS2 games. You should be fine thugh cuz i dont think u buy a pS3 to play PS2 games on it

It's doubtful. They removed the b/w compat. to reduce costs so they could sell the machine cheaper, and since they have they've seen the sales pick up.
I think they'd see it as a risk not worth taking of putting out a higher priced machine.

I don't think, that they will. Sony does it's best to reduce costs. Also Sony officials stated that Sony shifts its attention from PS2 to PS3 games.
