You said "not alcohol" so I have to agree. But my intoxicant of choice is music! All I need to do is listen to the right music and I'm painting away.

Not true. Though when 'intoxicated' you think you have the best ideas....there is a hitch or two.

1) You really suck at painting when doped.
2) When you get sober you realize you not only made a bad painting it also is the worst crap you ever thought of.

You canhave a happy accident but that can also happen when sober. Anything you can think of under influence you can think of something better when sober. Good ideas need work not a miracle 'cure'.

Actually it can be good to do, but not to subdue yourself into a drunken trance. There was a lecture on Painting while Intoxicated at my Art college in Ma. It was a great topic about MANY artists who drank and created many fine pieces of art. Picasso is one, but his broken (drunk) heart is what made him cut his ear off. Many, many famous painters drank Absinthe and their works of art are everywhere!

yes cos when youre high you wanna do an activity of any sort.but i knew a guy who relied on this method of tripping for artwork at art school and he never came back quite right. He ended up talking in tongue and even the art elders had to step in because his art became almost satanical, and not in a technically good way but a retarded way.

That your assertion is incorrect... an example would be Jackson Pollock... a roaring drunk... did his best work and was most productive when not drinking

I know of many artists who used drugs and did there worst work at that time... did their best work when they were clean and sober..
