The Roman Empire was built on slave labour. They enslaved people from throughout Europe, parts of Africa and the Middle East.
Yet no one is clamouring for Italy to pay reparations to all the descendants of people enslaved by Rome.
For that matter, the Romans persecuted many early Christians. Perhaps the Christians should also demand reparations from Italy.
Then Italy can sue the descendants of the Moors for that whole Carthaginian thing.
Where does it end?
We need to set some kind of limit: OK, if you yourself were not directly harmed by the action, just join the Club of The Rest of the F***ing World, and realize that life ain't always fair. Bad things happened in the past, and there's no fair way to redress that now. Just be happy things are better now, and let's study what happened so it won't happen again, but not dwell on it so much that it takes over our lives.

Having both in my family (Amerindians were also slaves) I do not want apologies for what happened in the past. Mistakes were made, lessons were learned. I am not so small-minded to blame people today for what their ancestors may or may not have done. BTW you do not see the Amerindians demanding apologies, and if anyone deserves it they do! Just look at what was done to them!

I'm not sorry that evil is stamped out, I am sorry when someone takes my Lords name and uses it. Or does some kind of strange or stupid acts...

I am sorry that some people are deluded and think God would tell them to do these things. I am sorry they hurt others.
Jesus teaches us that "a house divided will not stand." If someone (anyone) does anything contrary to what the Scriptures tell us, then it is NOT God/Jesus/Holy Spirit that is telling them. If they say it is, they are liars.
I am sorry for all that people have done and marred the name of my Lord, Jesus Christ or His Father, the living God.
...but most of all, if they didn't get right with God before they died...I am sorry for them.

I know I'll get thumb-downed for this, but...
I think the deadliest and most heart-breaking war this country has ever faught, all sparked over the attempts to end slavery, are the only apology nessecary.
