And why just certain instances of slavery?
The Roman Empire was built on slave labour. They enslaved people from throughout Europe, parts of Africa and the Middle East.
Yet no one is clamouring for Italy to pay reparations to all the descendants of people enslaved by Rome.
For that matter, the Romans persecuted many early Christians. Perhaps the Christians should also demand reparations from Italy.
Then Italy can sue the descendants of the Moors for that whole Carthaginian thing.
Where does it end?
We need to set some kind of limit: OK, if you yourself were not directly harmed by the action, just join the Club of The Rest of the F***ing World, and realize that life ain't always fair. Bad things happened in the past, and there's no fair way to redress that now. Just be happy things are better now, and let's study what happened so it won't happen again, but not dwell on it so much that it takes over our lives.

to start with, Christian morality isn't /absolute/, it truly is purpose. Slavery in Israel changed into indentured servant-hood, it truly is thoroughly diverse than the chattel slavery of the yankee South. searching for an burning witches changed into no longer - and isn't any longer - completely religiously inspired. established lack of comprehend-how performs the significant function. a lady changed into burned alive as a witch in Papua New Guinea, February 2013 by "a band of youthful adult adult males .. severe on dope". curiously it changed into the catholic nun who had previously tried to assist the female. Ya can't fix stupid, and regrettably in certain situations stupid has felt justified wearing a go.

Having both in my family (Amerindians were also slaves) I do not want apologies for what happened in the past. Mistakes were made, lessons were learned. I am not so small-minded to blame people today for what their ancestors may or may not have done. BTW you do not see the Amerindians demanding apologies, and if anyone deserves it they do! Just look at what was done to them!

I didn't burn anyone...but if it will make you feel any better...
I'm not sorry that evil is stamped out, I am sorry when someone takes my Lords name and uses it. Or does some kind of strange or stupid acts...
-murder
-blow up abortion clinics
-anything against the teaching of the Holy Bible.
I am sorry that some people are deluded and think God would tell them to do these things. I am sorry they hurt others.
Jesus teaches us that "a house divided will not stand." If someone (anyone) does anything contrary to what the Scriptures tell us, then it is NOT God/Jesus/Holy Spirit that is telling them. If they say it is, they are liars.
I am sorry for all that people have done and marred the name of my Lord, Jesus Christ or His Father, the living God.
...but most of all, if they didn't get right with God before they died...I am sorry for them.
Hope that helps!!!

I think the deadliest and most heart-breaking war this country has ever faught, all sparked over the attempts to end slavery, are the only apology nessecary.

Because "Christians" didn't have to take the bullet for that faux pas... politicians did. And I hardly think there'll be any politicians that give a darn about witches. Oh... then there's that little matter of many slaves being Christians, right?
See how they 'do' their own?

how about an apology to the christians... considering the millions that were fed to lions, burned at the stake, stoned to death, used as lighting for Nero's garden parties... and just because it is the 21st century doesn't mean it has stopped.

YA! And why not apologies from atheists for killing 20 million Soviets, 8 million Chinese, and millions of N. Koreans?
And apologies from everyone who's ever used dope for financing an industry that destroys our youth?
And apologies from homosexuals for causing AIDS to spread around so quickly?
YA! How about THAT !!!!
