EH...Beowulf is ok..I love the story, but it looks too fake for me...too much computer animation....
Yeah mythical beasts and such are hard to look real, but still...

Meh. I'll see it, but there's no way it will ever compare to the books.
The best pictures are always inside your head.

Actual Discussion at my house:
LabLad*: Mama (yes, he calls me Mama at 15) I want to go see a really cool looking movie that's coming out....(more whining)...it's called the Golden Compass.
LabGrrl: Oh, we were already going to take you to that, whether or not you wanted to see it. Some REALLY obnoxious excuses for Christians plan to protest it, so even though I'd usually wait for a DVD I was planning on going, probably 2-3 times. I'm putting passes for it in people's xmas cards, too.
LabLad: Best Mom, Ever.
Edit: I shall also see Beowulf at the IMAX, because I would watch TBN if it was in 3D.

The main characters spend the entire time fighting a senile old man as the villain. At the end you find out they have been trying to kill God the whole time.
The reason people are making a big deal about it is because the author is an atheist and has declared that he wants to write a book that gives the opposite message of Narnia.

I can't wait either. Only a few weeks to go :D
Ignore the idiotic religious folk here that obviously haven't read the book or anything about it beyond that Snopes article or other blatant lies about the books. It's gonna interesting to see the characters come to life (though tbh I'm not very impressed with Dakota's (Lyra) performance in the trailers, she seems so emotionless)...

I think you're confused about this movie. The books have very anti-Christian themes, and the author, a secular humanist (atheist) named Phillip Pullman, hates Christianity. Read about it before you see it, so you know what you're going to see.
