Are Atheists in their own way proving the exsistance of a God in their desire to prove that there isn't one? It's a Paradox...for something to be real it has to be proven unreal. If God is not real, then what is to prove? *Just a friend and I having a serious discussion over religion without all the hype and anger on R&S. We are not biased either way and would like some serious input.*

Paradox: A statement that is seemingly contradictory or opposed to common sense and yet is perhaps true. *Yes, we know what it means.*

Paradox? Do you even know what the word means?

For the record, we do not desire to prove that there are gods. We, more than anyone, would love to prove that one exists. But because gods cannot be proven, they simply are not real. Therefore there is nothing to prove. We are the ones that are waiting for you to prove something. Until then, you should do everyone a favor and shut up.

Does Globulism prove the flatness of Earth?

Are Globulists in their own way proving the flatness of the Earth in their desire to prove that it's round? It's a Paradox...for something to be flat it has to be proven non-flat. If the Earth is not flat, then what is to prove? *Just a friend and I having a serious discussion over the shape of the Earth without all the hype and anger on R&S. See? Your argument could be used with any kind of true/false debate. There isn't much value in a definition of 'truth' by which any positive claim is necessarily true, is there?

No.

Apply the same argument to Zeus, mermaids, Odin or unicorns.

For something to be real it has to be real. There may, or by not be known evidence that it is real. But the default position (as with Zeus, mermaids, Odin and unicorns) is that it is assumed to be unreal until you have evidence otherwise.

If this was not the case we would have to believe in everything that anyone ever conceived of.

If you want to talk about the likelihood of a specific religion, then there can be arguments for or against it.

If your religion says that Zeus lives in a big temple on top of Mount Olympus, then surveying the mountains disproves it. The believe is then forced to abandon their belief or, (as is more often the case) amend their belief - the temple is there, it is just invisible!

For Christianity there are many ludicrous arguments made. Many amendments have been done with the discoveries of science and there is even a field called apologetics where people spin and twist the words of the bible to try to fit their faith into reality.

That doesn't make any sense. For something to be real it has to be proven unreal? So I don't exist unless someone proves I don't? If god is not real, then what there is to prove is that belief in god is not sensible. And atheists don't try to prove that god doesn't exist, we simply point out that there is nothing to indicate that he she or it exists. So, no, atheism does not in any way, shape or form prove the existence of god.

No religion that I know of is based on the idea of proving anything. It is created from a foundation of beliefs. The belief of atheists is simply that there are no gods or deities.

I do not attempt to prove there is no god. That would be silly. I assert that there is no evidence for a god and anyone claiming otherwise has the burden of proof if they want me to believe it.

I'm an atheist and I have no desire to prove there is no god. I couldn't if I tried. But then again....the burden of proof is on the claimer.

There is no paradox.

Someone has invented the imaginary beings called gods. They have absolutely no evidence for this invention.

Do you expect me to take them seriously? Why should I even bother to try and disprove a figment of someones imagination?

I don't know of any atheists that are trying to prove there is no god. To attemp to prove a negative is logically futile and we all know that.
