The Emperor of Japan was Hirohito. After the Japanese surrender, he was allowed to keep his throne, but his powers were severely limited.

Emperor Hirohito stayed on the throne until his death, succeeded by his son Akihito.

Hirohito was emperor of Japan before, during, and after WWII. The allies left him on the throne so as to facilitate the subjugation of the Japanese people after occupation. Pretty smart, huh? Too bad there is a marked dearth of smart rulers today...
