There were quarries, further up the nile. When the nile flooded each spring, they could move barges up to the base of the plateau that the pyramids were built on. The ramps are still there.

Further, it isn't completely desert - it's just that the nile basin, where all the crops grow/grew, is at the bottom of the hill & the desert is at the top. Just look at Google Earth & you can see how sharp the division is.

You can also see the remains of the city where the builders lived. If you put enough people on one end of a rope, they're gonna move whatever's on the other end.

And what do you mean by "todays technology could not move them?" Come on...

Of course it could, don't you ever watch Discover or The History Channel and see shows like Modern Marvels where they're moving giant structures like oil platforms already built? These people weren't dumber than we are, and they were actually more adept at using the simpler tools. While it was probably labor intensive and took a lot of manpower, the actual 'how' of how they did it probably seemed simple to them. It was just lost over time since newer techniques and inventions made it easier to do it with fewer people..

You can move tremendous amounts of weight with rollers and other simple machines.

How do you support your claim that modern machines couldn't maneuver the blocks?
