Because the US has one of the best health care systems in the world. We have the best medical advancements, strongest research programs, and most experience physicians. If we were to go to socialized healthcare, funding would be eliminated for critical research such as for cancer and aids... Prices of medicines would go down, and thus pharmaceutical companies would not be able to spend the money on research that they currently do.
In countries where there is socialized health care, generally the best physicians are not part of the government program... they still practice privately, and patients still have to pay for their care... thus individuals who only use government provided health care are not getting the best care possible as the best doctors are able to practice privately.

Canada went to a free health care system not too long ago and now they pay almost 50% income tax for it.
And go to a hospital in France and see if you like it or the conditions.
The only problem in the US is the Insurance companies are messing everything up.

First off, health care is never free. Taxpayers pay for it. Why can't people like you realize that money doesn't just grow on trees? By the way, remember that we offer medicaid for the poor and medicare for the elderly and disabled. That's more than generous.

They also have over 10% unemployment, very little economic mobility, and very low growth (where 2.5% annual GDP growth is considered big) , because the socialist state requires so much money to run.
And the stagnation of the society has caused the Muslim population (derogatorically called the "Algiques") to become a permanent underclass. That's why they rioted. They are squeezed out of the univerity and out of jobs by the natives.
Is that the picture of freedom and prosperity that any free citizen would choose?
Not I, no thanks.

There is no such thing as free health care. People pay for their health care with money, insurance or taxes. With socialized medicine, a government bureaucracy has to be set up to run it. The cost is 50 cents for every dollar spent on health care.

The health care there is not free, maybe to the person using it, but it paid for through heavy taxation! Try working for a living and pay your own way instead of living off of others!

Because we in America would have to pay higher taxes. Trust me places like Canada and France are paying taxes through their teeth.

Nothing is free.
But if you want your taxes to skyrocket and your healthcare to be run as inefficiently as the DMV, well, good luck.
