I have an 18lb turkey and I would like to find a good recipe online. My problem is that the biggest turkey recipe I can find is for a 14lb turkey. Can I just extend the baketime and I will be fine? I don't plan on going off of the oven temperature on the recipe, I will read the instructions on the turkey. Thanks for your help!

hi,

It takes about 15 minutes per pound to bake a turkey. So your turkey will take about 4 and a half hours to cook. Of course, you'll can always stick one of those thermometors in and it will tell you when its done. I don't know what your other ingredients are, but just increase them a little bit, and you'll be fine.

Yes simply extend the amount of time that the turkey spends in the oven to allow it to cook properly.

If the recipe includes any mixes, rubs, ingredients, etc. you might have to increase their amounts slightly as well.

Definitely...just figure out how many minutes per lbs the turkey should cook according to the recipe and use it for the 18 lbs.

yes, it will be fine. just go off the packaging for the turkey and not the recipe for the temp and time.

possibly... on the spices you might want to add just a tad bit more to make sure all of the turkey has a good flavor. I smoke my turkey in a smoker, it gives it a stronger, more woodsy flavor.

Yes, just extend the bake time, 30 minutes for every lbs.
