I am not religion and "beliece" it because.
*snicker*
This one is a Christian and I feel embarrassed for them because of this post.

I used to be Catholic in my younger years. Then, by myself, I started saying, "You know what, this Bible doesn't make any sense to me; it sounds like mindless rambling. And this God character, he sounds appalling."
Still, it had been drilled into me that Christianity was the only way. So, I did what Christians are supposed to do: I prayed to God for help with faith. Annnnd... I got nothing! I asked for a sign to help renew my faith, and I didn't want any of that mysterious or abstract bullshit. I wanted something straight up. I wanted him to speak to me. Only once, that would be all I needed. No booming voice from the sky, I wanted him to speak to me like other people said he did to them.
From then on, I was just kind of there. No Catholic, but nothing else really. Then I started reading what some Atheists and such had to say, and it was really appealing. It made sense, there was evidence in my eyes, it fit. And here I am, Atheist.

I'm a Methodist Vedantist Buddhist Episcopalian Catholic, with sides of Baptist and non-denominational Christian. In other words, I walked a 'long and winding path' with God's help, and I am glad I did that, because I know more about 'religion' and about God than most people ever do. And I am still LEARNING and hope to be doing that until I am in Heaven and can find out 'the rest of the story' ...

I am a Roman Catholic (Latin Rite)
I was brought up that way, but I have realized that the Catholic Church holds the full truth. It is the Church Jesus founded. There are too many reasons why Catholicism is so beautiful, but I do not have room to fully explain.

I practice shamanism. I believe that way because through such methods I have experienced the spirit world, and seeing is believing. I am neither proud nor shameful of it. There are many paths and this one simply fits me.

I am Pagan. After years of research and "testing" various religions, I found that this one suits me best. I have to say it is the only religion in which I made a true connection with the higher power.

I do not believe in organized religion.
I DO believe in God.
the reason is because I believe some people get so involved into their religion, that they forget why they believe in it in the first place..
also, religion causes a lot of wars, and controversy..
even on here, in the religion and spirituality section, the different religions are always arguing, and then they blame it on each other.
Religion, in my opinion, only causes problems.
that is why I CHOOSE to believe in God,
but I am NOT a Christian.
*oh, and to the people giving thumbs down to answers, well, you have no appreciation of people's beliefs.. are you that insecure in your own religion that you have to denounce other's?*

I am Christian and the only reason that is because I was brought up in a Christian family. If I had been brought up in another hosehold my culture would be different due to the ways people are taught from their parents.

I am a Christian. Finding Jesus was the best thing that ever happened to me. Here is my "why" part. Sorry to leave you with a big wall of text.
I grew up in a Christian home and have gone to church since I was 2. Until a couple years ago, I didn't really understand what being a Christian was all about. I was happy to have God in my life, but I didn't understand the deeper sensibilities of the faith. I am 13 now and over the last couple years, God has worked magic in my life and I cannot imagine how empty and meaningless my life would be if he had not been there.
So why am I a Christian? Because I love having God's presence in my life! He has worked miracles in the lives of people around me, including myself. He knew that I needed to learn how to love others and that I was terrible at turning the other cheek, so he put me together with someone who was easy to befriend, then with someone else who came from the same family background but was harder to befriend. Here is the story:
When I was 12 in summer 2006, I went on a mission trip to Mexico with my youth group. I met a boy from a Denver who was my age and was also there to do mission work. We became good friends, and could talk to each other about anything. One night we had a heart to heart talk. He told me that he came from a dysfunctional family in a little town with tons of crime and drugs and gangs. I was really moved by how much God had changed his heart. In the couple days I had known him, I had seen nothing in his personality consistent with what he told me about himself. I almost cried when he said, "I don't want to go home. I have no friends there. Why would God show me this place where people can love each other in peace, and take it away in 10 days?"
A couple weeks later, I heard through email that he tore up his bible because his family and friends, who were not Christians, were giving him a hard time. I prayed that God would continue to make his presence real to my friend, and the next day, I received an email and my friend told me that his Bible was back in one piece. That made me cry for good.
God continued to make his presence felt in my life when I started 7th grade last year. He told me to reach out to this girl in my PE class who also came from a problem family and was constantly getting in trouble with the school and the law. I wasn't very nice to her in 6th grade. Whenever she said something mean to me, I would say something mean back. Although she did a good job hiding it, I could tell my words hurt her a lot more than her words hurt me.
At first, I really didn't want to, because school is different. It's harder to be a good Christian in school. Besides, I had never been nice to this girl before because she was never nice to me. God reminded me that this girl was just like my friend from Denver, and that she would change just as much if she got a second chance.
I still wasn't so sure, but I gave it a try. In 7th grade, I began by inviting her to sit with my friends during lunch. She usually sits alone, and was happy to accept the invitation. Over time, she softened a little and started to get in trouble less. But in 8th grade this year, she started demanding that I buy her lunch and do her homework. God reminded me that she is not used to having friends and therefore does not know how to act. I bought her lunch for one week and helped her with her homework rather than doing it for her.
It was amazing. She changed so much. She hasn't gotten suspended all year, and seems like a much happier person. I'm waiting for a chance to invite her to church with me.
Sorry, that was really long. It just meant so much to me when God walked me through step by step. He works in such amazing ways! I needed to learn how to love people and I was terrible at turning the other cheek. The other two needed to be loved. So he put us together and killed 3 birds with one stone. It has never ceased to amaze me how creative God is in working these things out.

I follow Christ but have no particular denomination. It saddens me to see the church split because we cannot agree to disagree. Sure we have different views on the Bible, but that does not change the love of Christ.
I am a Christian only because Christ loved me first, only because Christ pursued me first, and only because Christ died for me first. Everyday I fall and everyday I stumble, but everyday I know He picks me back up regardless who else is looking my direction.
"Fellowship with God means warfare with the world."
