well done on the promotion.

1. A piece of significant art that you like for the walls
2. A pot plant
3. A clock - trendy

You don't need to put too much on the walls..as time goes by you'll find other things that will need to be on the walls and you don't want to have it overcrowded.

Also, place your office furniture carefully and get rid of anything that you don't need otherwise it will be a breeding ground for stashing 'stuff'.

If you're going to be having people in your office for any length of time make sure you have a chair for them that can easily be brought up to your desk for discussion or pushed to a corner/space when not in use - it will also make your office look accomodating.

if you're allowed to paint the walls choose a colour that is easy on the eye, aids in concentration and isn't cold (avoid white!!).

you might also want to purchase some funky new 'desk mate' things, pen holder, blotter pad, in/out trays...these days you can come across some really classy office accessories that have colour and movement but are not tacky. Sure beats stacking black plastic or wire trays everywhere!

Good luck, have fun!

congrats on the promotion!! well done!
I suppose you just have to be careful to not get too personal with the decor you choose.
hopefully you have a window. maybe start with that--check out fabric at a fabric store. you will know what you want when you see it.
hanging plants such as a spider plant or boston fern are always nice.
artwork for the walls is a matter of personal taste-- keep the cost low by framing something yourself.

1] use colors you find soothing [ not sleep inducing ]
2] a live plant, or vase with fresh flowers
3] framed certificates, as recommended above
4] one nice family pic in a good frame for desk
5] accessories in a favorite color - blotter, in/out trays, letter holder, memo holder, business card holder, pen/pencil holder, tray with divided compartments for drawer [ letter opener, clips, tacks, stapler, tape, markers, extra postits and tags ], and a great lamp.
6] could use one spot on desk for a holiday figure, when appropriate
