The many woman who are told their babies have a birth defect but then give birth to perfectly healthy babies? I know at least 5 women who were told their babies were seriously deformed and would survive and that they would be grossly deformed if they livet. Yet all 5 moms had perfect babies.

Do you think some doctors tell women this to get women to abort because they think the world is overpopulated?

It has to make you wonder since so many atheists here complain about people having children in an "overpopulated" world

SAD, it's the only thing i can say. There have been numerous children with defects- who have gone on to accomplish wonderful things. However many familys are unable to get past the defect and the child becomes part of the system.Who spend the majority of their childhood in a childrens home with noone to connect /bond with causing yet another default.I dont think the goverment has the right to make that choice-iam a pro life-yet often i wonder alll the children perect or not what becomes of them-do they learn the nuturing needed?

I would never abort a baby because of supposed defect- that is really just playing God. I know someone who had conjoined twins, and it was reccomended that she abort one to save the other. She told the doctor that he was crazy. Both babies are alive and very healthy. They were successfully separated shortly after birth and have a few health problems, but lead normal lives.

We really are an intolerant people if we would abort a baby because it has defects. I thought that Americans had grown beyond excluding people with disablitlies. I guess I am wrong.

If the baby has birth defects like mental retardation then it is the will of ALLAH(Subhanna wa ta'ala). They shouldn't be killed because this is how Al Baseer made the child and the parents will get more good credit for taking care of a child who is deformed or mentally sick.

As a medical student, I don't think that doctors purposely tell mother's this, though I can't say for sure. What I do know is that no matter what a doctor does say, he can never say he is 100% sure, because we can't be. We can have a really good idea & that would be based on facts, observations, lab results, etc...but things don't always go as planned. A lot of times, docs miss stuff...tell the mom that the baby is perfectly normal, but it isn't, and vice versa. When my grandmother had a stroke, the head of neurology for over 30 yrs at a major hospital arrogantly told us that we were doing my grandmother more damage than help by keeping her alive, because if she ever did come out of her coma (which he said she wouldn't)...she would never breathe on her own let alone anything else. He was encouraging us to "pull the plug," which we did not. Within a week, she was out of her coma and with each day, doing so much better than any doctor could have ever anticipated. We just celebrated her 80th birthday a few months ago, and she is doing great! The doc even apologized. And anyway, I don't really think a child with a handicap is a reason to abort them. People would just be in shock if I said to go and kill their already living handicapped children...because that IS a shocking thing to say...and so I think it is equally shocking to say that of a developing child as well. My cousin is handicapped...he has fragile x syndrome. He is 20 yrs old now, and you know what....his innocence, his happiness, and his energy every time I see him is truly a blessing to our family. The world's negativeness has not gotten to him, maybe it never will...but truly, his gentle nature, his kindness, the way he always just wants to hug you and see how you are doing...he makes you really remember what matters in life. He is a blessing in disguise. A parent will not love their child less if they develop a handicap during their life, so why not also give that same love to child that MIGHT have a handicap, regardless.

And what about the deformed baby? I've heard of situations where the baby had a hole in its heart and would only live an hour or two from birth in agonizing pain and then I've heard about people wanting to abort Down's Syndrome babies. I think we tread awfully heavily when we start saying whose life is worth living and exercise the power of death in the name of mercy....

abortion is wrong no matter what- and I too know a few moms that chose life and their children are not handicapped=however I also know a mom that gave birth to a child she knew would have down's symdrome, and that child is precious. Also I know women that were told to abort the baby or the moms would die- they are all here to tell their stories

Aborting a baby because of suggested birth defects constitutes eugenics. Naturally, when Hitler does it it's evil, but when performed for the sake of Godless liberalism, it's a virtue.
