Some people take great hope in this verse because they construe it to mean that everyone will become saved. In reality, doesn't simply mean everyone will bow and recognize the King of the Universe? We all submit to His Judgment. That doesn't mean we're saved.

I find this somewhat sad.

it is kind of sad.

i dont take it mean everyone will be saved either. No matter where someone ends up for eternity, they will all realize the same truth, and every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus is Lord. At that point though, if you are in Hell, you have already been judged.

So yeah, every knee will bow and every tongue will confess, but the time that it really matters is when we are on the Earth.

Romans 14:11
For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. 12So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God. 13Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in his brother's way.

This was a warning that all people see a judgment seat of Christ! This doesn't make them "saved" ...to late by then.

How do we know who will be saved and who will not? By what criteria will God judge us on our last day on earth? Only God has the answer to that one.

Here, right now at this moment all we must do is believe that Jesus died for our sins, repent and be saved. We must try to the best of our ability to live the life that Jesus modeled. That's all.

God/Jesus alone has the right to judge us. None of us here have that right. We are given the free gift of salvation through God's grace and the work of the cross - IF we chose to take it. If we don't, well then I guess we'll all just have to wait and see.

I never have said that this means that everyone will be saved= what it means is that either we will choose and bow now, are we will acknowledge His Lordship later, and then it will be too late to be saved. It is sad that not all will be saved, however we have a lifetime to decide. The greatest joy is bowing NOW

The competing apocalypse story when the canon was voted on was the Apocalypse of Peter. It lost out by two votes. It clearly taught a universal salvation and even pointed out specific enemies of the church being saved to prove its point. That's probably why Peter got out-voted. Most people want to think of themselves as "special" or deserving of a gift that others can be left out from. It gets under people's skin when they have to think of an all-forgiving God of Love.

It doesn't mean everyone will be saved... it means all people, even unbelievers will bow, as you state.
It is sad, remember the parable of the 99 and 1? Jesus cares deeply about not losing anyone - I think that is why we are still here, so more can be saved.

I agree with your interpretation. I really never looked at it deeply enought to be saddened, but it is. The fact that when some knees bow and some tongues confess, it will be too late.

Your interpretation is closer to the truth. It means that everyone will eventually have to acknowledge that Jesus is the Christ and that they are subject to His judgment. They may not accept His teachings, but they will have to accept His authority over them. So you are correct, you can bow and confess but not necessarily accept the gospel and enter His Kingdom.
We should take it as a warning to learn of Him now and not wait until we are force to accept Him.

One confesses when depressed. Bowing knee is not indicated in a depressed state of mind unless of course the knees start shivering during the confession. In such an evantuality, a lie detector is indicated.

Today is a great day to accept Jesus as your Savior, then you will bow and confess with joy, not anguish. Peace
