Pain in any guise is what, a fear and a fear of the unknown! I have a pain in my big toe, what is it, cancer, circulation problems, bunion, broken bone, so fear of the unknown. Humans have this fight or flight response, butterflies in the stomach do I or don't I? The brain is an exceptional organ insofar as it can download worse case scenarios and go into some frantic virtual reality blaze at the power of suggestion. It stands to reason that in order to 'cope' with a sudden shock, trauma, bad news, that we need to release worry anxiety, so we cry. In hindsight if we go back thousands of years, around the camp fire, lots of smoke and dust, how else can you clean your eyes? You have been out hunting, came across a Lion, did not know if you should fight or run like hell, came home empty handed, feel a failure, so cry! If you took the Lion on and lost, your would not cry because you would be dead. Humans have a long past and were built to survive, always remember that. Although we live in modern times, many of our instinct come from thousands of years ago.

When you get hurt physically, your body releases tears from your eyes to be able to contain the pain and release energy. When hurt emotionally, you cry because when you get hurt your chest hurts so bad that it will release tears to loosen your muscles.
