Political correctness has indeed went way too far. Government spends most its time and effort making sure everything is politically correct. So do the candidates. Its nonsense. Spread p/c on your front yard and watch how green it turns.

I believe that it has gone too far. The western world seems to have forgotten it's religious roots in an effort to please everybody else.
I do not believe there is any harm in wishing anybody "Merry Christmas" (or "Happy Christmas" here in the UK) because anybody who claims to take offence should bear in mind that here in the West (Europe, North America, etc), and particularily in the United States, Christianity has been the official religion for several hundred years.
If you would prefer to wish somebody "Happy Holidays" that's fine too, but there should be a choice. Political Correctness demands that we not name any one holiday above another, that they are all the same and to generalise by saying only "Happy Holidays" and that is going too far.
Not only are we throwing out our own traditions, but we are making things worse for people from other religions and societies because we're in essence denying them their freedom of speech (something many of you Americans claim you would die for) by telling them their traditions are nothing in the face of not wanting to offend those of differing religious views.
As for this thing with the Target chain of stores, sadly, being in the UK, I am uninformed on this.
I believe that in order to remain true to the Spirit of the season, and what it represents (at least for Christians), we shouldn't be so quick to dumb it down to just an ambigious "Happy Holidays" and should wish people "Happy [whatever]" because recognition and acceptance will go a lot farther in the long run than anything else.

I trust Smile and Dee Jay. IMO political correctness has grow to be a prepare wreck. I artwork at a severe college greeting the wide-unfold public and answering a 6 line telephone all day. i'm regularly multitasking 10 various issues at one time. The administration harps approximately political correctness besides the undeniable fact that it is basically a teach, i'm able to overhear them whilst they think of no one is listening :-) communicate some team of bigots!! i'm severe high quality to all and sundry that enters my place of work and maximum days I take a bullet for some hair brained subject an Administrator has achieved. Thank goodness I easily have Certification to coach disaster Prevention Intervention. specific is geared up in reachable daily. great question!!!

Yes, you are right. We should be able to wish people Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanzaa, and all good wishes for any holiday any human being of any religion celebrates.
But why are people so obsessed with issues like these when there are so many more important issues to be concerned about : war, starvation in parts of the world, slavery and genocide in Dafur, economic problems, etc.?

You're correct, erasing it isn't going to solve anything. It takes an understanding of why getting all frazzled in your own mind if someone says it to you (not "you" personally) and letting go of the ego that freaks out, even if the person freaking happens to be Wiccan, Pagan, Muslim, etc.
It's an ego issue. Merry Christmas is a way of wishing someone something nice... how you say it is irrelevant in my opinion.. I think it's nice and I reply with well-wishes for them of my own.
My way of saying it today is to say that I wish all beings happiness and freedom from suffering, no matter what philosophy, religion, race, sex, sexuality, etc. Let there be peace among us.

I think it thas to do with intolerance. I will still say Merry Christmas, but if someone was to tell me "Happy Chanukah," well, I wish them one in return, even though that's not what I celebrate, or same with Kwanza...that's just my thoughts.

Have you seen what a person gets reported for on Yahoo R & S? There is no tolerance of normal Bible questions here if they are of a rebuking nature.
Although all kinds of idiotic posts come across my screen every time I am in this section, anything about Hell is regarded as rude.

People need to get a life!!! I would not be offended if someone said to me me Happy Kwanzaa. I am sick of people trying to be so politically correct and scared that they are going to offend anyone. Get over it!!! People are going to be offended no matter what!
Sorry about my rant!
Have a very Merry CHRISTmas!
