Could be just the CD is bad, due to it not being burned properly. Or worse yet, maybe they handed you a blank, unwritten disk - were you there when it got burned? Any chance you can get another one? You can try opening it on another computer. Worse comes to worse, there are some file recovery programs out there just for CDs, ranging from free to about $70. If you have an older CD reader some of them could not read an open disk or multiple session disk. You may be able to close the session(s) and/or disk on a different computer with a cd writer. If so your CD reader MIGHT then be able to read it but not for certain.

The disc may have been burned in a format your drive cant read. The pc's that do work with the disc, what markings do they have on the outside of the drive? Compare those to your drives markings. You may have burned a data DVD and your pc only has a cd drive.

Look for the file extension after the file name for example .jpg or .doc etc. Then search the net and see which program you will need to open that type of file.

Try to find what the file extensions are? .JPG? .GIF? This examples. In the picture viewer you try to use. Browse and look what it try to find. If, it default to .PIX or something then open the files and find something general. like "All Files" or something general. The Pictures could be in many formats.

If you don't have the correct file converter your computer might not be able to read them. What is the extension (3 letters after the period)?
