Is it usually in a tent that they eat?

Do they pray before the meal?

Thanks

It really depends on where you are stationed. I was in Mosul last Thanksgiving and the Thanksgiving before that. They try to make it a nice occasion for you, the food is the same as what is usually served, but they allow you to get more of the meats like turkey and ham (usually you only get one serving of meat). The temperature in Mosul is starting to cool down a bit because it is higher in elevation, and it will start to get below freezing at night sometimes. The dining facility in Mosul is a huge tent about the size of a football field. And if you want to pray before your meal you do it on your own, not as a group.

Our Thanksgiving meal was alright. Turkey, dressing, potatoes, corn. Lots of treats to pick from. They also had colored napkins and a few decorations up. It was better than the usually chow we get but nothing of course compares to a home meal. The temperature is getting cooler there. Not to bad but the nights can drop down to freezing.
We had a actual building to eat out of. I was at an old Iraq air base.
They provided services for those who wanted to pray.

i was there 3 years ago and the temp is still really hot, around 100-110 during the day, and the thanksgiving and christmas meals were about the only two good meals that the chow halls serve in the year i was there. we eat in buildings...no tents over there anymore and some people pray and some dont. but other than the meal its not really like thanksgivng, its like any other day over there

My brother ate at Taco Bell in Camp Liberty last year after getting off a 12 hour patrol and two near misses with mortar shells...

it starts to get cold and rainy this time of year - which sucks because there is little vegetation - it's like a huge mud pit

50-60 in the day time
mid 30's at night - but it feels much colder because there is almost always a strong wind blowing
