I don't know that any foods are really off limits other than what irritates for YOU. Acid foods of course are going to hurt a little more, such as citrus and tomatos, coffee and sodas.

The most important thing is to keep up with your oral hygiene by brushing teeth regularly and rinsing the area with a gentle rinse of baking soda and water to keep it clean between treatments. Brush gently. If you have a sore on your gumline, chances are you misfired with your toothbrush and gouged your gums. I have done this many times resulting in a canker.

An old home remedy to get rid of them...wet your finger, dip it in ALUM which is found in the spices at the grocery store (usually in a small container), and pat it on each sore. It is very sour tasting and puckery and not pleasant but it is the key ingredient in most canker sore remedies found in the pharmacy.

Another thing you can do is dab on some tea tree oil (health food stores) to promote healing, it is a natural antiseptic. Another old fashioned remedy for canker sores is Campo Phenique, the old oily stuff in the green bottle with yellow label. My grandad's motto was: "If Campho-Phenique won't take care of what's bothering ya, WD-40 will!". He was a basic kinda guy. (Don't use WD-40 on your cankers...he used CP for medicinal use and WD 40 around the house.)

spicy, salty, acidic.

IF you get them often try changing your toothpaste. They think the the sodium lauryl sulfate may cause them. My husband got them often and since I switched his toothpaste, he hasn't had any.
