I'm going to my boyfriend's family's house for Thanksgiving this year, we've only been dating a few months but since I live far from home and I can't make it home, his family invited me over. I was told I didn't need to bring any food, and I was planning on sending a Thank You card afterwards...but I was wondering if I need to being a hostess gift for his mother. And if I do...what should I bring? I dont know her very well, so I have no idea. Thanks!

You really should. Standard are wine or bakery goods - like a cake or really nice loaf of artisan bread or specialty dessert, also flowers. Remember, the hostess gift is not to be served that night, it's for the hostess to enjoy at a later time.

A thank-you note is perfect. If you know that future contact with your boyfriend's family is likely, be gracious and lovable.
A gift would be pretentious at this stage.
Bring a bottle of wine, champagne, soda, etc. to the dinner.

I would take something as they are opening up their home to you. If they drink a nice bottle of red and white wine always works. Or maybe an after dinner liqueur. If they do not drink take a live plant or flowers.

Bring apple cider just in case. If she says they don't need any just say you got the food, I got the drinks, it's only fair. Be sure to smile and say that nicely.
Next time insist on bringing something or helping in some way.

You'd have to get advice from your boyfriend or something. If they drink then bring a bottle of wine. Or a cheese plate and crackers or fruit plate.

of course you can buy a nice basket bath spa orsomething for heer home , like a nice vase.
and dont stay at the house over nite, get a hotel

a good bottle of red wine would be appropriate. or make one of your most favorite desserts you might not normally find at the Thanksgiving table ( in case she made one already )
