I am a great fan of mixing media and wood tones. Besides giving you more design directions, I like a home to look as if the furniture was collected over time, representing the life and lifestyle changes of those who live there. You home can wind up looking like a furniture showroom display when you match every piece of furniture (and I have seen a lot that also look like hotel chain suites, too) This leads to a steril environment that represents what the manufacturer believes "goes together" instead of what represents who you are as a person and where your tastes take you. That being said, I also believe you need to tie the mismatched pieces together which can be done in a host of ways. Upholstery, draperies, area rugs, decorative accessories, art, wall hangings, table linens, china, etc. Go for it!

This can work if the styles of the pieces do not clash (i.e. French country with art deco). Try to tie-in the different wood tones with accessories that have similar colors in them, like the rug, upholstery, drapes, table linens.

Sure.
Just make sure the colors you pick complement both wood finishes [ walls, carpet, drapes ].
The large china cabinet is big enough to hold it's own against the table/chairs.
Most 'professionally done' rooms match more than one wood.
I advise only two, or in a very large room three [ each wood in more than one piece of furniture, to 'balance' it. ]

I do not think anything goes but you can have "mismatched" pieces in the same room and they can look great! My friend has pulled several rooms together that have several different pieces in it by finding drapes that have several of the colors in them and by painting one wall an accent color.
Unfortunately I am terrible at selecting colors so I cannot help with that :(
Good luck!

Sure I think it would look fine. But so would Dale Jrs hood hanging on the wall of my den :)
So long as the styles are similar, you like it and your husband doesn't mind, it should be fine.
