I personally can't think of many examples in which an organized religion has really promoted female equality. Maybe, Epsicopalians, because they support the ordination of women.

Just look at the Baptists, who have openly come out against having female preachers.

Look at the Muslim community, and Amish Community where women have to wear veils.

Do you think the Dali Lama would ever be a woman? Even Scientology is focused around a guy. Muhammed, Jesus, and Moses were all men, no surprise there. Do you think an orgainzed religion would ever be focused around a woman?

So women, my question is this. Why do you put up with these stupid religions that seem to be so focused on keeping you one step behind men?

You're wrong. The spiritualist religions are not and never have been sexists. Progressive and new thought churches reject any form of sexism. It's never good to make generalizations.

Even if a religion was focused around a woman because of her gender, I would consider it sexist.

As I practice shamanism, I can give you some info about sexism within the cultures that practice forms of it. The most common attitude based on anthropological studies around the globe is that women rarely become shamans, but when they do they tend to be more powerful than male shamans. There is nothing proscribing a woman from practicing in most cultures. I am not aware of any exceptions, but that doesn't mean much since I'm not really an anthropologist.

In order to understand the sexist origins of most any religion-you need to understand the logic of sexist position. The Christian double standard, Islamic, Jewish in fact much of the morality taught has nothing to do with right or wrong--or one sex superior to another--the double standard existed for a very important societal reason. That reason was codified into law into some cultures-in other cultures that were governed along religious lines--it was codified into the religion. The reason for the double standard, the stricutre against adultry--all the various things in reality that have to do with sex--all have one common element. For example in Jewish tradition--a male or a husband either one was allowed concubines (a woman he was not married to he could have sexual relations with). The bible itself is replete with stories of Judah;s hero's and their concubines. Yet if a married woman in the bible or most cultures had sex with someone other than her husband--stoning--burining at the stake--mutilation. Why? Property and Inheritance. Any children from the male with a concubine would be known to not be children of the marriage. The first born of his wife would inherit all the property in the family. If the wife however, had sex with someone other than her husband--it would be unknown whether the child was the progeny of the husband or the lover. This throws the whole economic system in upheaval and is very detrimental to the growth of a society. The whole doulbe standard thing--the stricutures against adultry--are not morality based but based in economics.

i am baptist and am not against a female prophet. i am however against a female preacher, merely because the word of God explains that they shouldn't be. not that women are inferior, but they are just not the same. God equipped both male and female to perform different functions. you don't agree with that? rally a group of women against a group of men... women were not fitted for a battle. but keep in mind the most beautiful event in history is likened unto a bride, when the church is presented the bridegroom, the Lord Jesus.

islam
your wrong about muslims woman having to wear veils.
the reason they have to is because that puts more value on women. there are many reasons for women wearing veils but think of it this way, that way people love them for who they really are not what they look like. besides men have to do things women dont.

and islam deff. treats women as equally as it does men
"As for those who lead a righteous life, MALE OR FEMALE. while believing, they enter Paradise; without the slightest injustice"

Islam is not sexist.

Just because we wear veils does not mean that we are lower than men.
We receive the same blessings and the are the same in respect. I don't know why some ppl don't take the time to learn about a religion before they come to conclusions.

Look at the divorce rate. Ever since women got judges to give them custody, all the property, and child support the divorce rate has increased exponentially. Marriages have become more difficult because there is no head in the household. What you have now is I don't like this and we better go to councling (which hardly ever works) or we get divorced. Lots of women are committing adultery because they get property and custody. Also, the get pregnant and get child support. The only people it has helped is the divorce lawyer. They are laughing all the way to the bank at the expense of the kids.

The answer to your question is simply “no.” Unless, of course you count the new form of Christianity that dominates in the U.S., in which you say what you think is right and then find a way to make it fit into the Bible. Most Christians are followers of this new form of Christianity.

There is one religion you're forgetting; Paganism. Believe it or not, Paganism and Wiccans believe in equality. They pray to both a goddess and a god. Everyone is accepted no matter what race, gender, or nationality.

And yes Paganism is considered a religion. And no it's not devil worship.

Hey, the Erisian movement worships only goddess Eris. Of course, goddess, in her infinite grace, doesn't claim to be above men but merely turns us into newts if we get cocky. I hear she's turned some chicks into spiders though, and that got her into a huge catfight with Aphrodite. Somebody saw that fight though and claimed it was freaking hot.
