How did my cat get worms from fleas?... being an indoor cat ? I know that sounds really stupid however he is declawed and has never been outside yet he keeps getting these tapeworms (long white strings out his A#$) I hate them and I can't seem to get rid of them they keep coming back. I have nedication here from the vet and frontline, I use it regularly on him and never see any fleas. He is a siamese (tan color) seems like they would be easy to see when he is laying on your lap, I look all the time and see nothing. I take good care off him and don't get it.....

Indoor cats still get fleas.

Frontline is good, but if you're not treating your house there's a possibility the odd flea is still coming in from outside and getting on your cat. Furthermore, tapeworms are not transmitted only by fleas.

Just get some proper worming stuff from your vet - you don't even have to take the cat in to pick up Drontal tablets, or Panacur suspension if you prefer. Just please don't use pet store stuff, because there's no possible way it can be useful - stores aren't licensed to sell the proper stuff for parasite control.

Tapeworm segments classically look like rice grains by the way.

The fleas are being brought in from outside. Sounds like you may have an infestation inside the house. They will lay their eggs in floorboards etc. Fleas can lay dommant and will find a host, your dog. The house, front and backyard should be de-flead. Take the cat to the vet for a flea treatment and worming while this is being done. Make sure that you put Advantage or other flea products from the vet only, on the cat when the fleas are gone.
Do not use over the counter flea products or wormers on your cat. Dangerous.
Hope this info helps.

I always keep the other half, as long as it was cut hygienically and popped straight back in the foil bubble, no problems. I would advise that you crush the half pill and mix it with your cat's favourite food (I use canned tuna, they can't resist it) as the sharper edges of the half pill make it difficult for the cat to swallow. 3 monthly is recommended based on the time it takes for adult tape worms to reach maturity, I'm told. This way, even if your cat is picking up worm eggs daily, she should never have a fully matured worm in her. If she doesn't go out, worms shouldn't be a problem. You ca get Drontal on-line from VetUK without a prescrpition, just pay by the tablet.

I have a cat that I rescued literally from outdoors. The vet said that whenever a cat has fleas, they'll always get worms. They go hand in hand. You can't have one without the other. I'm not sure why he keeps getting them as an indoor cat, but you may want to get your house or apartment fumigated. The vet should have a medicine to get rid of the worms. It comes in a pill that you have to make your cat swallow. They can also give you a flea bath to use that will kill all the fleas.

I'm sorry to hear that. But Good Luck.

Fleas carry tapeworm, which can live for 2-3 years and continually produce those little rice-like segments. The recommended treatment is praziquantel - available in the veterinary products Droncit and Drontal, or the OTC product 'Tape Worm Tabs' made by Tradewinds. Sorry, but it only comes in pill form; nobody has figured out yet how to make it dissolve or remain stable in liquid form.

For round worms, such as ascarids (those are the 'spaghetti' ones) you want something with pyrantel - there are numerous OTC products out there. They come in both pill and liquid forms.

What you are seeing is tapeworms. They can be expelled individually or in strands. They come from ingesting infected fleas, so somewhere your cat is becoming reinfected with fleas. Do you have any other pets that come in and out? All pets must be treated. Use Advantage or Frontline--they are the safest products on the market.
The tapeworms must be treated with Praziquantel tablets. They are over the counter or the vet can sell them to you. Dose is based on weight.
Fleas are often difficult to detect on cats because cats groom themselves so well, they can pick the fleas off easily. That is why we see more fleas on dogs than on cats, and why we see more tapeworm infection in cats!

worms are something most cats and dogs get from time to time, although you cat seems to get them worse than most if you can actually see them. they tend to always be present in th gut but if you keep your worming regime completely up to date they should cause no problem. they can occasionaly get worms from fleas. did you know that the fleas can live off your cat and in your carpets and furniture, so can reinfect your cat after tratment with frontline. make sure you get something to treat your house with from the vet and wash all your cats bedding well.

there is also the small possibility that the parasites have become resistant to your treatments, so its worth speaking to your vet about alternatives.

hope this helps a little!

If the cat injests a flea they get tape worm....or if they injest a bit of their infected poo....
I suggest getting a brand new cat box, vacuuming the whole house and throwing away the vacuum bag, then give the cat a worm pill (cestex) wait two weeks and give it one more. Make sure you clean the litter box EVERYDAY. Maybe even put only a little litter in each day so you can just throw it all away each day. Remember you can bring fleas into the house as well! I use frontline on my cats and it works great.
Good luck!!!

Normally with tapeworms, you only see small segments, like bits of rice.
If you are seeing long spaghetti strands of worms, then it's more likely to be round worms.
Bring a stool sample to your vet for them to identify the eggs in the stool and then they will prescribe the correct medicine to treat the worms.

That doesn't sound like tapeworms at all. Tapeworms come out in segments that look like grains of rice. Have you had his feces tested at the vet for all parasites? That sounds more like roundworms to me...
