the last couple of months i have noticed that any cuts i get heal very slowly and are leaving a lot worse scar than they used to.

before my scars would fade away in a few weeks (off minor cuts), but they all seem to be staying there and looking as if they have been freshly picked.

I dont scratch them or pick them so what is going on?

I would set up an appointment with your doctor for blood tests. The doctor will be able to tell from this if your immune system is functioning well...if your liver is producing the correct amount of factors in helping your body blood to clot and heal wounds...or if your body shows signs of infection or inflammation. There are a number of conditions that can effect the healing process... like diabetes, metabolic problems, blood problems, even the use of certain drugs.

your epidermis (outer layer of skin) is made of stratified squamous epithelial cells. these are flat wide cells that overlap causing protection from heat, cold, pathogens, punctures, etc. and prevents water from leaking out of body tissues. this makes the cutaneous membrane (skin) so effective at its job.

when you get a cut or scrape, the severity of the damage determines the course of repair your body takes upon the injury. this can lead to two procceses occuring

1) regeneration: where the damaged cells are destroyed by lysosomes and new cells of the same type (stratified squamous epithelial cells) grow in the same spot. this leaves little scarring

2) fibrosis: where the cut is too deep/ragged or in a nonregenerative spot such as the liver. the damaged tissue and empty space is replaced by dense fibrous connective tissue (what ligaments and tendons are made of, called scar tissue in this situation)

if scar tissue is not forming it is most likely some sort of bacterial infection. try putting neosporin on them and see if this helps, because it kills bacteria wich could otherwise prevent the immune system from repairing wounds. if that doesnt help i would suggest making an appointment with a dermitologist.

Try "faster healing hydrocolloid plasters" available from Boots. They are great at healing, and reduce scarring

use Vitamin E gel capsules. Just poke one with a safety pin and squeeze out the gel and apply it the scar, and ONLY the scar. the gel might cause pimple outbreaks or it just gets too oily for the skin. the gel might drip so observe it. i used the gel on some of my pimple scars.

my brother used the gel for his tattoos to prevent and heal any scars and he swears by it.

It doesn't hurt to see the family physician before anything . But I think you might wanna use some Vitamin K. Vitamin E deficiency can also affect the body as such. But mainly Vitamin K would be more helpful. Hopefuly that will accelerate the getting well process.

It means you are not eating properly. Your body does not have the nutrition to run. That's like asking your car to run if you put water in the gas tank. Your body is an amazing machine and can repair itself but you have to give it the tools.

·Healthy diet. It is important to maintain a good diet so you don't compromise your health.DECIDE TO MAKE A LIFE CHANGE TO A HEALTHY LIFE STYLE.

1) fruits and veggies, all you want, organic, raw, vine-ripe if possible. Steamed is OK,sauteed is OK even canned or frozen is OK, but lots of them.
2) limited or no meat.
3) nothing fried
4) no FAST FOOD- is junk, no nutrition, empty calories
5) NO PROCESSED FOOD. if you can't pronounce it don't eat it.
6) nothing white, salt, sugar, mayo, milk, (or at least in moderation.
7) NO DAIRY-dairy is great for baby cows, your body does not even digest it properly. check out www.notmilk.com
8) EXERCISE- and be sure to refresh your body with water and fresh fruit
9) NO PROTEIN SUPPLEMENTS. Muscle is made from water, replace the water. You get enough protein from the food you eat, You get more protein from spinach than the supplements you take and your body does not get toxic on food protein the way it will with supplements. Supplements can really tax you liver.
10) Good supplement would be Omega 3, and B-12 and Juice Plus+

I would go and see your GP if you are having concerns. It could be a number of things. Drink plenty of water over the next week and see if this helps. And I don't mean just the extra cup!
