Because you believe that it's bad luck!
Luck is what you make it...and all due to association. NOTHING is going to happen; if something bad happens its because it was going to anyway.
Stupid-stitions came about because people had to blame SOMETHING for things going wrong!
Why not blame the bad thing on the fact that a blue candle was in the west-facing window while you were peeing during the same nano-second that a cat was fornicating outside the outhouse?

Most believe that burning candles can bring luck or fortune to a person. Perhaps the display of an unburnt candle conveys that you aren't doing your part to bring luck the home.

huh? Boy should I have a ton of bad luck!! I've had candles around for over 40 years. Never heard that silliness before. Different superstitions for different people.
