I was making my pumpkin pies, and I added the evaporated milk. After I had added about half of a cup, I realized that it had expired 5 months ago. That was the last thing I had added. Do I have to throw that batch out and make a new batch? Will that little bit make people sick if I made it into pies? That was 2 pies worth of mix. Help me please!?

I'm sorry, but I don't think you want to be sending anyone to the emergency room on thanksgiving, correct. You don't want to kill your family (I hope), and expired milk can really, really hurt you. I might give it a try, but if anything is growing in it, throw the pie into the trash.
Sorry! :(

Well only if you leave a REALLY small amount of milk. I suggest you throw out the whole batch because you never know how much is still in there. It might make people sick (probley will).

Well, I've never made pumpkin pie that needed "evaporated milk". Every time I've made one it called for "sweetened condensed milk".
If it doesn't smell rotten then its probably ok.
Most canned products don't go bad for at least a year past its "Expiration"

Expirations are a guide and MOST items are good well past the expiration. Does it look and smell OK? Go for it. If is is contaminated it will have "puffed" the can and you would know right away that it is bad.
I think you are OK. Throw away the cans and don't mention it. And go to your grave with that secret. If you mention it someone will get sick just because.......!

Your pies should be fine ... but you can 'check' to see if the evaporated milk has soured by dipping a teaspoon in and tasting just a bit ... if it's not 'sour' then your pies are okay ... if it's sour, then you'll need to 'start over' from scratch.

There's no way to tell. But unfortunately, yes, it is more likely for someone who was given something other than breastmilk or formula as a young baby to develop diabetes or become obese.

it probably evaporated lol no don't use it. it is against the law to sell anything that has gone past its expiry date and you could face a fine of £20.000 or a jail sentence of at least 2 years

Does it smell bad? If not it's probably okay, it was sterilized and preserved under high pressure during canning process, which most likely killed dangerous bacteria and microbes.

as long as the can wasn't swollen, or dented, I would assume that it would be okay. while there was a date on the can, with proper sealing it should be okay for a year.
