I believe it's called 'contributing to the delinquency of a minor'.

Police officers are supposed to ENFORCE the rule of law NOT VIOLATE it.

The kids in question were 16 and over. This happened before the new law came in raising the legal age to 18. The reason the police officer brought the cigarettes was because the shop owner had refused to serve them and they in turn refused to leave so the police officer intervened and sorted out the situation. Stop reading the Sun and get the full facts before asking questions. The police do a wonderful job.

I take it there was cctv footage of the alleged crime?

I haven't seen or heard anything about this - hence my question.

I do know it is supposed to be a criminal offence to purchase cigarettes and alcholol for underage children though..

The question maybe should have been will it be one rule for law & order officers and something entirely different for the likes of you or I?

Times have really changed haven't they? I remember going to the shop for my dad's cigarettes. I was six so we're talking well over 30 years ago. I would rehearse what I had to say over and over in my head on the way because '20 embasssy number six tipped' was a lot to remember. I used to feel so proud when I handed over the cigarettes and the change to my dad.
