In 1986 an international group of animal protection organizations that includes HSUS formed the Coalition for Consumer Information on Cosmetics (CCIC). The coalition urges cosmetics and household products manufacturers to sign on to a “Corporate Standard of Compassion for Animals” policy and agree to not conduct or commission animal tests or use any ingredient or formulation that is tested on animals. Companies portray the coalition’s “leaping bunny” logo on products as proof of their commitment. CCIC publishes a pocket-sized “cruelty-free” shopping guide [PDF] which can also be downloaded from its website.

Most cosmetic products today are being tested on animals before they go into commercial production. That is, unless their label bears a marking which says they weren't tested on animals (these products is still a minority on the market). Some companies, like BodyShop, don't test any of their products on animals, and so the labels on their products they so.

Pharmaceuticals (drugs), on the other hand, are almost always being tested on animals first, then on humans (volunteers).

A worthy sentiment.

I hope you also steer clear of clinics and ob/gyn's who perform abortions?

I mean, after all, if people who use animals for product testing are wrong in that they cause suffering to animals to protect your safety, which I totally agree with, surely those doctors that abort babies, committing the murder of an innocent child for "the convenience of the mother" deserve just as much criticism?

I assume you are talking about cosmetics or something like that, because all drugs (medicines) are tested on animals. And people too. All drugs are first tested on animals and then on people who volunteer, before they are allowed to be sold in the U.S.

lets not forget your immunizations... those life saving flu shots made from fertilized chicken eggs, blood for transfusions that gets tested for contamination using horseshoe crab blood... etc. Your health is built on the broken backs of the animal world. Sorry.
