It depends on the test, but a score higher about 150 does not have a lot of meaning. The tests cannot really do a good job beyond a certain range.

Conceivably 200

The highest anyone has reported is Daniela Simidchieva with a 192. Statistically, one person on Earth has a 200.

by definition, 100 is average. 50% of the population would be between 89-111. Only about 10% (1 in 10) are above 120.

130 to 159 is considered gifted and over 160 is considered genius.

At about 137 you're looking at only 1 out of 100 people. At 150 it's down to 1 out of 1000 people. Daniella (above) is in a group of 1 in a 100-million.

Scores can be age adjusted which makes them different than a base score and can also be reported as a deviation IQ which can put the score over 200.

This all assumes that the test instrument is valid, is delivered in a controlled environment, and is interpreted by a professional. The fun online tests are interesting but they aren't truly valid measures - some can be very close though

My kinda guy.

But seriously, there are about a dozen different IQ tests and none of them are on the same scale. The most common one is the Stanford-Binet IQ Test. Each one is set up so that 100 is "average." But you can get, say, 135 on one IQ test and 145 on another, with the same brain.

At the high end it's all BS. After you go to college for 20 years or so, you start to know the people who write the IQ tests, and they aren't the sharpest pencils in the box, so how would they know? Come to think of it, how would they differentiate between a person who had a 45 IQ and a 55 IQ? Just pick a number and stick with it - 135 sounds good.

Sorry - I forgot to answer your question. I've seen "IQs" of famous people, and I think Goethe got a 210 once. But Goethe was a dunce, IMHO.
