I heard there was more than one St John, 3 acutally. One had nothing to do with revelations, the other St. John the Baptist.
How can you define St. John, as the writer of revelations in a way it is clear who I am talking about? And at what period did he write them? (Year eg. 95 A.D.) I don't know if there is a real answer to this question.

Same one who wrote the Gospel of John. Per Eusebius, early church historian, John the evangelist and John the Apostle are the same. John the Baptist died before the Gospel had been fulfilled, he wrote nothing we have a record of. For clarity I would define him as the Apostle John, of whom there is only one.

There is some debate when John wrote revelation. Many scholars put it to 95AD to coincide with Domintians persecution of Christians. I believe that it is more likely written before 70AD, during Nero's persecutions. This was the ancient interpretation I believe as well.

Even most Christian theologians agree that St. John the divine (author of Revelation) is not the author of the Gospel of John.

No one knows who he was other than that he authored Revelation.

John the Baptist wrote the Gospel according to John, and the Book of Reveation.

John 1:19 clearly states "this is the record of John" it then goes on to clarify which John is speaking. The rest of the Gospel of John was spoken as if the writer actually witnessed the events.

John 1:6 states that John was sent by God to witness for the testimony of Jesus.

Revelation starts in the same manner as the Gospel of John, that John bare witness for the testimony Jesus.

In Revelation 1:10 John states he was "in the Spirit" on the Lord's Day.

The Lord's Day was the day after Jesus rose from the dead, it was the day Jesus was glofied and ascended to heaven, and all eyes saw Him, coming in a cloud, with great power and glory.
John was in Spirit because his body was killed, beheaded.

The 3 letters of John were also written by John the Baptist, the Gospel of John and the Book of Revelation were all written by John the Baptist, after he was reincarnated, by Jesus. For Jesus said "I quickeneth whosoever I will"

This was not the first time John the Baptist had been reincarnated, John the Baptist was also Moses, Elijah, and Isaiah.

In Matthew 5, Jesus said whosoever shall break one of these commandment and teach men so shall be called the least in heaven.

Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. Matt 11:11

We are spirit the body is nothing more than a house for our spirit, read Luke 11:24-26 and Matt 12:43-45.
The body may die, but the spirit is just "born again" into a new body. "No new wine in old bottles"

What spirit took over Saul's body ?
Who were the 12 Apostles, when were their 1st lives ?
Why is Jesus called Jesus the Christ ?
Was there a Christ before Jesus ?
Jesus said "Abraham was glad to see Him"
Was there a Christ before he appeared to Abraham ?
Who did Jesus say was his brothers, sisters and mother.
Did Jesus say behold my mother, behold my son speaking of the apostle John ?

The traditional view is that it was the apostle John. Not everyone subscribes to that. More info at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Book_of_Revelation#Authorship

the apostle whom Jesus loved. that is how he referred to himself. before the death and resurrection of Jesus, John was an immature person... he was so quick to wrath and prejudice that his nick name was son of thunder. at the supper he rested at the table with Christ, on the island of patmos however, he fell down as a dead man and was prostrate before the risen son of God. He is indeed an interesting character. but so were all of the apostles. they were so different, each one of them.

the apostle John. son of zebadee and brother of james, and the 3rd and 4th fisherman. based on my studies.
"The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show to His servants what must soon take place; and He made it known by sending His angel to His servant John, who bore witness to the Word of God and to the testimony of Jesus Christ, even to all that he saw."
