Why do you think they are "real tools to contact the other side" when you disregard everything else as "just a toy"...
Tsn't this a little silly?
Its just as reliable as those paper toys girls make in high school with the colors and the numbers...(what are those things called?)

the ouija board worked totally different than the coottie catcher. the ouija board either worked with magnets or some unknown force (suggested demonic); the cootie catcher worked by the operator's manipulation.
the magic 8 ball was just a random floating in liquid die.

Many people think that Ouija boards can open up a way for the other side to communicate, although I personally don't believe that. I suppose a magic 8 ball or even those paper things could work in the same way, I think the main difference is the way you use it. Magic 8 balls and those paper things are always treated as being for play, while some people take Ouija boards very seriously. I think the mindset of the person using it is thought to be very important. I'm not aware that this belief is specific to Christians, though. In fact, most Christians I know think Ouija boards are a bunch of BS.

I do not know what those things are called.... but ouija boards are not held in the highest esteem by most Christians. They generally believe the only 'spirit' contactable is God, and you can reach 'Him' by prayer.
However, Ouija boards do involve a group of people entering a period of sacred time and focused energy, which is more than can be said for magic 8 balls or paper monster number things made by girls.

Parker Brothers did not invent the Ouija Board. It had already been around for awhile when it was bought by Parker Brothers in 1966 and turned into a commercial success as a board game. Its beginnings lie in the distant past when an earlier version (a tripod device) was used in the ancient ways of Babylon and Greece to contact departed spirits. The tripod became the pointer now used with the Board, which is printed with the alphabet, the numbers 1-9, a 0 (zero), and the words 'Goodbye', 'Yes', and 'No'. There are other boards like this with different names, but with the same history and purpose. The modern version of this game was developed by a man named Planchette, a spiritualist (someone who contacts the dead as part of their religion). The Board was further transformed around the turn of the century under the direction and ownership of two men, Elijah J. Bond and William Fuld. Fuld’s name can be seen on the Ouija Board today. The name Ouija is a combination of the French and German words for 'yes': Oui and Ja. According to Bond and Fuld, the Board suggested its own name. The primary purpose of the board is and always has been to contact disembodied spirits. Contacting the dead is called necromancy, and contacting spirits is spiritism, both strongly condemned by God (Deut. 18:9-12; Lev. 19:31, 20:6; I Sam 28, II Kings 21:6; Is. 8:19, 19:3-4). The Board’s translated name, 'yes, yes', is an ingenious and subtle way to invite spirit contact. Dead people cannot hang around after death; you cannot communicate with a dead person. The practices and techniques of contacting the dead and contacting spirits are used widely in the occult. Although the pointer is often moved intentionally or subconsciously by the players, you are putting yourself in a vulnerable position when using the Board. By 'playing' this 'game', you are showing an interest in spirit contact. If contact is made, it is demons (evil spirits, fallen angels), not the dead, who are responding. If Satan can disguise himself as "an angel of light" (2 Cor. 11:14), then it is not improbable that fallen angels can disguise themselves as the dead. The Ouija Board is not harmless just because it is marketed as a game. Satan, the master of deception and seduction, is good at twisting the truth into lies (Gen. 3:1-6; Jn. 8:44). Satan likes disguises and his lies are often disguised as games. The next time you are tempted to play the Ouija Board as a game, look beyond its disguise and see it for what it really is. Think about this: Just what or who are you trying to contact? God tells us to seek Him instead of the dead (Is. 8:19), and Christ "lives forever to plead with God" on behalf of those who believe Him (Heb. 7:25b). Who wants the Ouija Board when you can know the One Who has "complete authority in heaven and on earth!" (Matt.28:18). If you are wondering about Christ, think on His words in John 5:23b-24, "He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father , who sent him. I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life."

Well I think that magic 8 ball is used more for fun, than anything else. Many people really do use the Ouija boards to contact the dead. I don't think that any contact that you get through that medium, will be good contact. Do they work? I don't know- but if they do, it is not contact from Good spirits.

We always called them "cootie catchers".
i don't understand why you single out christians here, wouldn't it make more sense to direct the question at the "spiritualists", or some similar term, who use them for seances and fortune telling?
i think the difference is that no one is claiming the others actually work. The makers of the "magic" 8 ball have never even implied that it has any actual powers. But the ouija board is based on a superstition tradition goign back centuries.

I'm a christian so in my opinion, those other toys are mainly used as fun and the outcome is based on chance alone. With a ouija board, it's like people are trying to have some spirit or something guide their hands onto letters. It's not shaking a ball. It's like inviting evil spirits, which in my mind ars very real, inot their house to play some game. I've never played but I have a cousin who had one and later heard it shaking in her closet. The house was what you would call haunted after she played it. Blood splatters would show up on the walls and just a lot of creepy stuff happened. they later moved and never touched one again. It's like playing with the devil.

a ouija board is suposed to contact any spirits in your house or where ever you are. a magic 8 ball and cootie catchers are just fun games for people to do like truth or dare games or fortune tellers.
some people actualy believe that a oujia board does contact spirits.
I have a ouija board at my house that I use at sleepovers and stuff and its kinda fun it worked once but I think it was just my friend moving it :)

Different levels of concentration are required for different things. The Ouija board allows people to mentally connect with the dead and demons and such - and the boards do work - especially when you use very emotional younger children.
