I don't think we play god at all. We learn about the universe and make use of that knowledge.

Along that point, when Dr. Barnard did the first human heart transplant, he did it in South Africa because religious believers thought he was playing god. After enough believers who needed a transplant to live came along, well it's OK now. Today we think is normal. In fact we would be angry if someone was denied a transplant because a different person believed it was playing god.

In my view, the closest we come is when humans claim to know how some god wants us to live. We have to follow that person's teachings or else.

Funny thing was, I was ready to answer your question, until I started reading the other answers, then I realized I had totally misinterpreted the question. You asked how humans play (attempt to portray or assume powers of) God, I read how human play (take advantage, patronize) God.

I'll go ahead and answer it the way I first took it, just to throw out a thought.

I think the biggest way people play God is they assume upon His mercies, thinking, "I'll get saved _____.", or "I'll do ______, even though I know I'm not supposed to, I'll just get saved or repent."

In this way, I feel people take God for one who is not aware of what the heart is truly thinking. People are purely taking advantage of (and banking on) God's patience, love and mercy, which is a dangerous things to do.

I know this is a bit off base, but I thought I'd add it in.

Humans don't play God. Humans have a great influence over one another, but it is not possible for humans to assume the role of God in the sense that most people mean "God". No human can be all-powerful, all-knowing, and ever present.
Of course, I also don't believe in that kind of god, so my opinion probably isn't worth all that much...

Oh Man that's a good one.
Well they often manipulate scriptures to control people if they are the controlling type. Or magnify parts of the bible to make it sound like God will do this or that to you.........Mostly how they play God I think is manipulating scriptures to their advantage and it happens all the time. Good question here is a star.

I think that we play God everytime we create a new medicine or cure a cancer. We cheat death and pay the price w/ overpopulation.

I personally think that humans play god, by commiting abortions, by killing an innocent child. By senceless murders and killing of people ( those who arn't causing harm to others, those who dont intend to cause harm to others, or to them selves)

Nobody can possibly play God. We're like little nothings and wanna-be's. The closest someone can get is balsphemy
