'MI5' as it was called, although it has no links to the military any longer does not get involved in 'policing' as they are not the police.

Specialist branches of the police work with MI5 in counter terrorism operations etc but the reason they dont go after rapists etc is that simply isnt in their remit.

Your logic could be applied to imigration and the DVLA. After all with the DVLA knowing where every untaxed car is maybe they could help?!?

As for access to CCTV the police hold powers that allow them to this.

Well id rather have the MI5 investigating terrorists and possible attacks, not finding rapists or murderers. Think of it this way, a murderer will kills only a few people, or say even if they go on a killing spree, maximum they cant go over 30 can they (not saying those 30 people arent important). But a terrorist, in one go, can kill 10,000, and much much more! So id rather have the MI5 doing what they do now, then start policing the streets!

I think i would rather that Mi5 and Mi6 be used to prevent some idiot blowing something up in the UK, the Police are there to deal with the "Normal" crimes, i don't think we really need the Military Intelligence Services to help them, leave Mi5/6 alone to keep doing the good work they are doing!!

Or would you rather some mad f***er was allowed to blow something up cos they were all busy chasing a murderer who killed 1 person instead of the nutter who wishes to kill hundreds??

You have picked on the crimes where the police have the highest detection rates, 90% in the case of murders. Crime rates in this country are nowhere near as bad as you imply, but maybe you have been reading the Daily Wail. Of the offenders who are arrested by the police for violent crimes, only 48% ever reach a court but you can hardly blame the police for that.

MI5 are good at what they do, but they pass enquiries onto the police where appropriate.

Er, MI5 stands for Miltiary Intelligence, branch 5. The military has not been used for civil policing in England since Cromwell's time!

MI5 is for inner intelligence and MI6 is for exterior intelligence. the secret Intelligence provider (SIS), frequently universal as MI6 (initially armed forces Intelligence area 6), or the secret provider or merely Six, is the united kingdom's exterior protection employer SIS is to blame for the united kingdom's espionage events distant places, as unfavourable to MI5 it is charged with inner protection in the united kingdom.

hi you would not ask a policeman do door duty at your local nightclub just as you would not use mi5 to police our streets each proffession has its own remit and i am pretty sure if any one is caught on cctv comitting the offence of rape or murder the civil police have just as much access as mi5, let mi5 protect the country and the police look after the public, but remember we can all do our bit to look out for each other.
