The one year old doesn't understand Christmas yet. Get him practial things that you need to take care of him like clothes, sippy cups, soothers, bed sheets, winter boots/snow suit, new car seat, booster seat for at the table, socks, etc..

My 1 year old son really likes this electronic nursery rhyme book made by V-tech. It's made of plastic and on each page something moves and plays music and sings a nursery rhyme. It also lights up. My son likes to turn the pages and make it sing.

Get their picture taken with Santa at the mall. Your little one may be brave enough this year not to cry but he may cry next year.

you can buy all the toys you want. the only thing that child will play with is the box it came in!!!!
i'm in the same situation. my 4 year old gave me a list a mile long.
i think i'm going to try a v-tech or something like that for my one year old. he also loves the LeapFrog Fridge DJ that sticks to the fridge. LeapFrog makes a ton of educational toys that are really fun. (i find myself playing with them after the boys go to bed)

since he's (?) not walking yet, try a push toy (not a walker they sit in). anything with lights and music would be a safe bet.

If your 1 year old is anything like my kids, a tissue box free-for-all is the funnest thing! They can pull out all the tissue and they'll have the absolute greatest time.

As a stocking stuffer, we used a Ziploc bag of cheerios. It was a hit!

You can buy the one year old anything you really want THAT'S SAFE for children that age.Stuffed Christmas themed animals WITH NO PARTS THAT COULD BE TORN OFF AND SWALLOWED OR CHOKED ON.At age one they are not going to remember much about Christmas or any day for that matter.
