Hi!
I'm quite interested in crossbreeds (but please tell me if you think I shouldn't be) - I won't take offence unless you're really rude! lol everyone's entitled to their opinion and I appreciate your advice.
So, anyway to cut a long story short, I really like crossbreeds (mostly poodle crosses) but I am honestly NOT interested in all this designer dog buisness. What I am interested in is getting a puppy that suits me.
So basically, what I want to know is if you think a cavapoo (cross between cavalier king charles spaniel and poodle) or a cockapoo (cross between english cocker spaniel and poodle) would make the best pet. Or if neither, can you reccomend another breed?

Thank you!!

Sorry for not making it clear, I don't live in America so I can't use petfinder. But I will definitely be going to a shelter and see what they've got!

Then why support it? Sounds like you're a perfect candidate to adopt from a shelter.

The fact is, no responsible breeder will mix breeds on purpose...so whomever your choose for your whatever-a-poo will simply be out for your money.

Well, considering that neither of those designer dogs are breeds, I would reccomend a MUTT from a pound. Why get a designer if you don't want to support the BYBS that are out for your money? Please, go to your shelter and find a dog that actually needs a home.

These dogs are not worth the money you will be paying for them. I am not saying they are not adorable and very loving animals but of you really dont care about having a pure breed go to a shelter and get a dog from there. Thousands of animals need homes and the people breeding this so called "high-breeds" should not be aloud to charge the hundreds of dollars they are just because this is the latest fad in designer dogs. Also since this is a relatively new thing, we have no way of knowing what kind of health problems these dogs may have in the future. All breeds are subject to certain genetic problems, not that every dog will get them, but by mixing breeds we are mixing the problems. Save a life, adopt a dog.

Yes, definitely go to a shelter, since a lot of 'designer' dogs end up there after the novelty wears off. It's great that you're interested in crossbreeds, but call them what they are. You're looking for a Cavalier/poodle mix or a cocker/poodle mix.
All the cocker/poodle mixes I've met are nasty, ill tempered biters, so that wouldn't be my first choice. Of the two, I'd go with the cavalier/poodle mix.

I must say, I have a Cavalier (rescued, found her on petfinder :) ) and I'm absolutely appalled at the thought of Cavalier mixed breeds. Cavalier's are wonderful dogs in thier own right, why intentionally crossbreed one? The breed has enough problems without adding crossbreeders into the mix. I would also reccomend that you adopt. Petfinder.com is a wonderful source, it lists purebreds and crosses in shelters all across america. If you are interested in mixes from certain breeds, try searching petfinder under "Cavalier" Poodle" or Cocker" and you will bring up both purebreeds in those breeds, but also thier mixes. Its impossible to say how a mix will turn out- poo mixes for example are NOT all hypo-allergenic, alot of them inherit the shedding. They may get all the wonderful traits of both breeds, but they may also get all of the bad traits, health problems included. And remember that cross-breeders aren't starting with the best purebred stock- no breeder of quality purebreds would allow them to go to a home to create cross-bred dogs. The best thing to do is adopt a cross from a shelter, one whose individuality catches your eye you'll be saving a life and NOT supporting back yard breeders or puppy mills. -Neb

Hello there,
those two types of dogs your looking at they are designer dogs, specially bred for people who are looking to have something else than there next door neighbour. You can get them in Germany too but over here they are classed as mongroles and they cost more than a cockerspaniel because they are different.
Go to the rescue center there are lots of lovely dogs you can choose from all of which need a good loving home.
