Stupidity.
Arrogance -as displayed by the person who thinks knowing if her family is involved is worth putting others in danger.
Ignorance-as displayed by the same person who doesnt understand that traffic is when the same number of cars on the road are bunched up instead of spread out.
Basically people dont realize the dangers and problems with it. Residual crashes are caused by this. Rubbernecking is why officers and peds get hit on the side of the road at crashes.

I know..this drives me crazy!
I never rubberneck (fear of seeing blood or scattered limbs)...I try to see if I know anyone involved, say a quick, "Jesus be with all involved" and then I try to keep it moving!

Rubbernecking does not cause more traffic. There will be the same amount of traffic. It will just all be bunched up. :)~
I do it because I want to make sure it is no one I know. Now that my children both drive, I do it more than ever.

because they're curious, it's human nature
just like when a wolf dies, all the other wolves come to see if it's okay, even if they know that whatever killed it could be nearby
