$600-850 depending on version and calibre. You might try your local gunshops for a deal on a 2nd hand weapon; also, see if you can find a deal via a publication like The Shotgun News.

The 45 ACP is not necessarily an engine stopping caliber, But it is a fine defensive handgun and a much better choice than the DE. While the DE has plenty of power it lacks in the ability to deliver a high rate of fire as the recoil is stout and follow up shots do not come quickly. Plus to get good with a handgun requires frequent practice and a diet of .50 AE will put a hole in your wallet almost as fast as simply shooting it. Meanwhile the .45 ACP is going to deliver quick follow up rounds on target as well as penetrate into a car with sufficient energy to disable targets on the inside and allow you to maneuver with ease. All this aside, pistols are fine but you may need a rifle for what you are talking about. The power out of a good rifle easily trumps most handguns and a good clip fed semi auto that you can shoot 1.5" at 100 yards versus 2-3" at 25 yards for the handgun, brings more to the fight than even a DE. At close ranges 15-25 yards that kind of precision pays off as most people can't seem to hit a target at 15 yds with a handgun all of the time. Just something to consider.

RE:
does anyone know how much a desert eagle handgun costs?

I agree with Zastava. When someone asks about the Desert Eagle it is usually about the .50 cals. They do not serve any purpose.
If you are talking about Baby Eagles I do not have enough personal experience to say if they are good or not.
But in any case the guns that Zastava listed are much, much better. I enjoy Springfield (the XD series) and Berettas as well.

The Magnum Research Desert Eagle is an over priced piece of ghetto trash. Unless you're a pimp, drug dealer or a wannabe gang banger you're better off with a dependable better built handgun.

If you have the money to buy a Desert eagle, you have the money to buy a QUALITY handgun instead.
I suggest
Sig
HK
CZ
Kimber
Beretta
Glock
Springfield
SW

Unless you have an exceptionally small genetalia and exceptionally low self esteem, or if you're a drug dealering gangbanging pimp wannabe, there is NO purpose for the Desert Eagle.

The IDF has NEVER used this pistol, regardless of what you've heard elsewhere.

check on gunbroker.com, I have the Baby Eagle 9mm which is the smaller version of the desert eagle. I would suggest you purchase a nicer gun.
